Why is Cline in at the end of the game...

I know he made two threes, but we never would have needed OT if he was on the bench and C Edwards played. In the last two minutes, Clpine played no defense, didn't help against the press, shot one air ball, almost one turnover, and was a non-factor on the last play that was designed for him. When will CMP play our best players when it matters most.

That's my entire point, so I guess we agree on everything. This is the third game (Iowa & Nebraska) where CMP had Cline in the game and better players on the bench. This time we were lucky enough to win. These coaching decisions have put a ceiling on our potential in the tourney. I haven't yet mentioned allowing PSU's point guard to score 10 straight without changing how we guarded him,

Nope. It seems we disagree on everything else.

We wouldn't have won in OT last night if raw freshman CE played more last night. He was laying like a rookie. If he played more and continued as he started in the game we wouldn't have made it to OT. Hopefully CMP got his attention with an ample application of pine last night. One Ronnie Johnson is all any of us ever need at Purdue.

Totally agree - CE was not playing well at all. Just making the same play with the same bad result over and over. I think he was 1 for 8 in shooting.

Nope. Cline was doing pretty good. We needed height at the guard position and he was the best we had off the bench. CE was not having a good game, and he was too short to be effective against PSU's guards. We also knew PSU was packing it inside, so a reliable 3-pt shooter was a good choice. I think you are way off-base second-guess the decision. Cline can be a very effective guy on the perimeter, forcing teams to pull away from doubling the inside. PSU found that out to their dismay when they did not cover him l.

Cline saved our asses last night and to second guess a coach's decision after a win is a bit dumb.

As many have said, we had no business winning that game. PSU beat us in nearly every statistical category, every hustle play, every big moment...except Cline's 2 triples at the end.

Carsen had not scored well the previous game or so and I think hunting his shots more than the a few games ago. Carsen will be fine and Purdue needs him, but he had not played very well when in. Could he at the end? Who knows, but Cline is not going to jack a shot up and in a close game many times coaches want to dictate that a little more...right or wrong. There was a time I wanted Carsen even knowing he had not played well, but he would have been told...no early shots in the clock unless an almost automatic make and look for openings to drive the ball...BUT force the contact and then try to finish...play strong as the refs were letting them play a little more. One play I was really upset with Ryan was towards the end and a long board bounced out to the FT line and Ryan looked and was very late to go to teh ball and ended up bnot getting it and getting a foul I think. Like the 3 ball for fools gold....biggie is NOT going to get every rebound ...especially as people ensure HE is blocked out with one or two people. Anyway, Ryan saved Purdue last night adn the kid is trying to develop a game going to the rim. when I saw Ryan this summer I was very disappointed as I thought he regressed, but once I learned of his issue...it made sense...and once he was on the team I think he has generally been a stable player out there that forces the D to extend whether he shoots or not...the threat is there...

I think the other team made a concerted effort to rile Carson. Carson lost his cool and became a chucker to settle the score with the guy defending him, except he kept missing over and over. #2seedifwewinout

Can you tell us how you know that had C Edwards been on the floor in place of Cline? Psychic? Soothsayer?

Painter did one hell of a job last night keeping the team focused in over-time.

The real question is why wasn't Vince in. I don't care if Haas or Cline were in with him but both shouldn't of been out there while Vince sat. Vince is clutch and he had been a big part of closing out the last few games Swanigan fouled out. I really don't understand Painters logic there especially since it wasn't an off game for Vince he was 3/4 from 3. Glad we got the win but I really hope this isn't the new method Purdue closes out games because I don't think it is their best lineup and they got lucky they were playing Penn State last night.

I think that Carsen was out to help him understand what he needs to do to be in the game in similar situations. He's very talented, but he needs to play a lot smarter than he did last night. I think that Painter would love to have him in the game late when Purdue is in crunch time in the NCAA Tournament.

I don't know if he should have been in the game or what matchups were but.... he hit 2 huge shots and that's only going to fuel him going forward. Next year he's a junior and as prolific as a shooter he is, I want this guy to be more impactful. Those were big J's in OT and he's makes this team better period.
