about Biden harping on increasing American manufacturing? I thought that America first was a bad idea? "Cars and semiconductors made in America, instead of relying on foreign supply chains let's make it in America!" Sounds like Trumps plan to me.

Trump plan terrible hate it; but Democrats say the same it’s brilliant.
You guys are so enamored by Chump that you think he was the first and only president to talk about keeping manufacturing in the US. US jobs etc. I've been alive for 10 presidents. Watched 9 of them speak. They all talk and promised the same thing.
You're so ridiculous you don't even understand the POINT. All these whiners on here said American manufacturing was a stupid idea when Trump touted it. Now Biden is saying the exact same thing. Where are all the whiners to tell us how dumb it is?
Very simple to explain. We now live in a "2 warring tribes" political system. Given that, what is important is not what is said, it is who said it. That is how ideas are judged. Very destructive to the country in general, but the powers that be stopped considering that long ago.
Who said Anerican manufacturing was a bad idea when Chump was touting it? I dont remember no one here saying that.i do remember Chump trying to take credit, like he usually does, for preventing Carrier from leaving and going to Mexico. They ended up moving a lot of jobs to Mexico anyhow.
Did what? There are still a lot if US companies not in the US. He did no more than any other president did or didn't do about jobs overseas.
American manufacturing isn't coming back. That ship has long sailed and you can thank Ronald Reagan for it.

Like I said with Trump: the 1950s American manufacturing economy is dead… but it really does play well with voters in Ohio, Michigan, etc.

I said it. Trump was making promises to win votes, just like Biden is. The fact is the economics of automation and unionization killed the average factory worker.
Not sure about unionization but automation is a catch 22. It is nice when parts can be made efficiently but automation has taken away a lot of jobs. Corporate greed has taken away a lot of US jobs by moving plants out of the US.

You say “corporate greed”, and I say “capitalism”.
You can’t constantly negotiate higher and higher compensation like you have a monopoly on labor, and then complain when capitalists innovate to find less expensive ways to manufacture.
It’s not greed. It’s common business sense, and it’s why we have the standard of living that we have and why we generally lead the world in terms of technological innovation.
I think some manufacturing can come back. Some of it has. Even China has invested in plants in North Carolina. It turns out having modern stable power grids and clean water is important sometimes. However this labor market will always compete globally, to some degree, and drive wages down. There are also national security implications of not making things here, which military leadership is learning the hard way.
Whatever it is, no one called them out on it. But get feelings hurt when I say Chump.

Any changes made related to jobs will take years to have an impact. Trump implemented tariffs. That was a good start but was quickly attacked by economists who are globalists, the media, Dems, etc. His opponents quickly pointed out that prices would go up with tariffs. That, of course, is true. No one, including Trump ever said prices would go down with Tariffs. Of course prices will go up. It costs more to make products in the US than in China, etc but in the long run making products here is much better for Americans and the rest of the free world. The experience of the pandemic and now Putin's war also point out that supply chains that run through dictatorial countries are a very high risk to our national security. For decades the dems claimed they were supporting blue collar America but in fact neither they nor the reps did anything to help the blue-collar worker in the US.
Except up to this point is still permitting Russia to help supply our energy needs. Stupidity on steroids not to mention that China manufacturers a large percentage of the medicine used in the US as well which is also very concerning
I don’t care if you even call him Chimp because the country was in much better hands than with the current administration. For the easily triggered, I get it Trump’s personality rubbed people the wrong way but he was elected President of the USA not student body president which amounts to a worthless popularity contest winner
