There has been talk for sometime on how important the recruiting class of 2017 will be for us. It seems like we are extending new offers everyday.

Who will be the first verbal in this class?

I'm excited to see who verbals first. I think it could cause a snowball effect especially with some of the bigs we are going after. I am really hoping it's Williams or Jackson.

Normally, and nothing is normal anymore, a lesser ranked player will be the first. The higher ranked ones tend to wait to see who goes where and if a school they are looking at gets someone nearly equal at their same position, etc. Not always true, but there tends to be some jockeying for position that needs to happen before many commit. It helps PU that we have several scholarships; therefore, not getting crunched if lower ranked players accept first.

It'll be Tillman. Then Eastern will see there's a bruiser underneath and he'll commit. Then JJ will make pledge because Tillman can do the dirty work and JJJ can play the 3. Then Williams will make the call and play the 4. Maybe NLP will join also.

Is this the same Tillman that just committed to the Illini?

I am interested in this as well. We keep hearing about how big the 2017 class will be. Fun to keep track of.

I agree, I think Xavier Tillman will be our first verbal. Seems very well spoken in interviews, and I hear he has a good defensive and rebounding game. Would be happy if he was our first verbal.
Watched some recent video of him - reminds of me Travis Carroll.

Thing about Travis is he gave everything he had, the coach played him, you got to give a guy credit for not giving up, regardless of what was thought about him later. Never cut down a Boiler who gave what he had.
Didn't cut him down, said he was awful at basketball, which he is. Nothing wrong with being bad at basketball.

He's ranked much higher than Carroll and has much better offers. Really doubt he's as terrible as Carroll, dude belonged in d2 at best.
What is he ranked? Do you recall what Travis was ranked? If memory serves correct - he was a top 50 recruit at one point.

yeah I remember Carrol putting up Zeller type numbers in high school. He was a big recruit when he committed.

"I'm not cutting him down, he was just awful at basketball". haha ok

He was ranked around 50 in his sophomore year when he committed.
Tillman is ranked 81 I believe by rivals, but that's going into his senior year.

I remember everybody thought Carol was 6'10", and still growing. Turns out, he was 6'8" and done growing

TC is a Good lesion in how much to trust rankings. Good kid who gave his all. Just didn't have the right stuff for D 1 basketball.

Bad players in the Big Ten are very good players. Travis was obviously limited athletically but good enough to play major minutes on a not very good Big Ten team

He couldn't get any minutes as a senior on a team that finished last place. I think it's safe to say he wouldn't have gotten minutes on any team in the big ten let alone major minutes. That's laughable.

He wasn't ranked high at all when it was all said and done. Rankings sophomore year of high school are pretty meaningless.

He is awful at basketball, sorry if the truth hurts.

Why is it that when a guy isn't athletic, we always say they gave 110%? How do you know he gave his all? Did he tell you?
Name a player who didn't transfer who didn't give it their all.

Who always says that?

People have been saying for years that AJ wasn't giving it his all. People said it about Brad Miller.

Yes, he played much more before his senior year...no question. Still anyone that goes D1 or d2 were good players...just maybe not at the level, style of play or supporting cast to be good at that level. Hell kip Jones couldn't hut a ft, but I'm thinking burger boy? Don't read anything other than what I post as I'm not saying he was a good Big player, but many bad big players are good players
