Who will be commit #13

Added the specialist needed.

Picking this guy who I’m not going to disrespect by trying to spell his name;

Good prospect who, if he stays at DT, will need the RS to gain weight. Uses giant hands nicely within the trenches and establishes good leverage to gain an advantage against bigger players. Good first step if he stays inside and can use that to rip through the center-guard holes to create some disruption. Would make Purdue better a program after his RS year unless he can pack on about 35-40 pounds between junior and senior years.

I have to wonder with the names committing this weekend if the other names we hoped for have already informed Brohm of their intentions to look elsewhere. I hate the idea of getting a commitment and then informing them 4 months later we will be signing somebody better.

Or they wanted to continue to look and Brohm knows he has guys lined up of similar ability and projection so he doesn’t have to wait. Now, are here guys Purdue would wait for...of course! But I think with Hunter announcing that Brohm doesn’t believe he needs to wait out for higher level guys. Purdue is showing it can be a place guys want to be at that weren’t just MAC guys...it’s a place guys of high ability want to receive an offer from.

I can agree. I just don't like the philosophy of filling up a class with commitments , and then telling the guy in November , sorry we need your scholarship back because we finally convinced this 4/5 * to sign with us. That did happen at Purdue last year to three commitments who were all told, thanks, but we found somebody else, hope you can latch on with some other team.

Bell has said several times that he would not be announcing until his HS season is over. Will Brohm wait and hold open a scholarship? or will he get 20 commits and then tell somebody , sorry, I need your scholarship to give to Bell?

It's the same for Weaver, Britt, Boateng, Robinson, and Zimos. Does brohm wait patiently for them to make a decision? or does he get commits now, and say, sorry Charlie later ?

I used to feel that way until committed recruits would drop us like a hot potato if a big dog came calling late...It's a business to both the student/athletes and the schools, each doing what they think is best for them!

Too much stock is put into these verbals. Yes, it's a good indication of what the class will look like and there are a lot of guys that will stick, but in general there is no such thing as absolute loyalty until signing day. Like you said it works both ways. Some players will flip. The last thing Brohm wants is a bunch of vacant schollies that he needs to fill late in the game with lower tier guys.

Each player who verbals has work to do to live up to their offer. But every verbal is not equal. For someone like GK that work is very minimal. Basically stay out of trouble. But for others who are more raw, they are expected to put in work and keep improving themselves between now and signing day, and show it on the field this fall. To not do so puts you at risk for being "on the bubble" if a numbers crunch develops.

Isaiah Gibson

He may be the only true DT prospect they take at this point.

Person committed to IU.

Thought they may take two DTs, but they have Johnson (FR) and Daniels (RS-FR) with the possibility of some of the DEs from last year to move to DT (Marks especially).

Could be some of the targeted DEs could bulk and move inside from this class

Read an interesting breakdown of the 2018 draft from 247 by position. Basically focused on the top 100 picks and how they were rated out for HS. What to look for as far as NFL potential and what to stay away from. There were 11 DTs taken in the first 3 rounds and I think only 3 of them were 285lb or higher out of HS or something. The average size going into college was 6'4" 265 or 270, most were multi sport stars.

So I think a couple of the DE we are recruiting/have committed could be beefed up to play DT.

Sounds like Purdue cooled on Person.

Well, that didn't take long. Both PU and IU had pretty good weekends and while I certainly don't know, I think Purdue would have gladly taken Person's verbal. Why do you think PU "cooled" on him?

I also think the game is changing a bit as well where you may not need a dominant DT to be successful and can use a beefy kid sparingly. I’d rather put 4 guys on the field who are athletic and weigh around 275-285 as DE’s. With the adaption of the spread more and more and trying to work angles on the outside, you have to get speed on the field. You saw it as more and more safeties were dropped down to play OLB. DE’s being a bit bigger but playing inside was likely to happen as well.

Similar to the NBA and bigs like Haas. If that kid was 10 years earlier, no doubt he’s a lottery pick.

Because they didn’t have him visit and they’ve been spending a lot of time on Isaiah Gibson.

My guess is they spent more time on Isaiah Gibson or other DT's. There had been discussions about Person coming in to visit but Purdue never brought him in. Usually a sign of them backing off since Person didn't seem like he had a ton of visits lined up to my knowledge. Similar situation to Larry Tracy. Iowa and Purdue both dropped him even though @Kern County is certain that Tracy dropped Purdue lol. The whole Tracy dropping Purdue thing is laughable since he was all about Purdue (tweeted and talked about them constantly) as recent as a few months ago. He didn’t progress like Purdue (and Iowa) thought he would so they stopped recruiting him which was evident by the fact that both schools brought in numerous other CB’s instead of Tracy for recent visits.

I heard Person had a visit scheduled to Purdue but cancelled his visit after committing to IU.

I would’ve guessed he would’ve been a part of the big recruiting weekends these last two weekends if he was a serious option for Purdue but nothing had been said about him for awhile on Purdue’s end of things.

Does this guy just want us to admit that IU got a recruit we wanted??

Ok, you got him! Good job! GO HOOSIERS!

There are thousands of recruits. IU is bound to get a few too. Who cares?

Congrats, good job, good-bye.
