they should look for someone with a diverse background, like someone with Frank Martin's experience...

Ha! Is that true? Judging strictly from his demeanor and mannerisms, it's certainly easy to see.

Yes, I would prefer the next HC either be someone from a different region of the country or just not have any Purdue ties (you'll see the same type of sh-- as the "Purdue Way" if the AD hires someone with Purdue basketball ties), at least not for a long while.

Not only do I want someone from outside the Purdue family, but I want the motto changed from:
"Defense lives here" to "Defense is important, but we like offense more, but what we really love is big, athletic guards who can shot, penetrate and finish"

Not that I disagree with you, but Have you seen South Carolina this year (not just tourney)? They have been been a defensive team first and offense has been an afterthought. In fact they only have one reliable scorer on the whole team...who happens to be the SEC player of the year. Their kenpom adj O is triple digits.

I'm not sure. I just got it in an email from a friend and thought it was kind of funny.

I do not see Painter leaving anytime soon, FWIW.

Yeah, I know he's not going to leave on his own terms. He will be forced out when the time comes.

Didn't Purdue lead conference in scoring?
Top[ 2 or 3. But you saw what happened when we faced long teams with athletic perimeters: Minny, L'ville, KU,
I know, I know. Every team wants 6'5-6'7 guys who can handle the ball, shoot, penetrate and finish. Problem is, we seem to get way more of our share of 5'10-6'0 guards who have trouble with a lot of those skills.

Linc Darner teams play up tempo basketball and still carry on from the Keady family. I'm interested to see how he does for the next few years at UW Green Bay. At this point though I wonder whether a final four in the next 5 years would really satisfy the anti-Painter people.

Every contract has an ending...don't know when his current contract expires but if it is not extended and we suck for two or three years in a row before it ends, it is the easiest way out!

To be clear, we're not claiming Frank Martin is a better or more successful just because he made a final four, are we?

That would be dumb.

I'm not sure what they're trying to say but the feeling I get from those in, around, or who follow college basketball is that Frank Martin has "more of a personality" than someone like Matt Painter.

Which gives him 96–73 (.568)
SC is just like Villanova in terms of tourney success. They weren't good...until they were. It just takes once. Most never do it but it can happen.

Who wouldn't want his .630 winning percentage?

reminds me of the short receivers over the years in comparison to some football teams.

I hate jumping into this because it does get interesting reading other comments. There exists No coach that doesn't put his personal touch on things. EVERY coach takes some from one coach and some from another and so forth. Matt's offense is much closer to Knight's than Genes..and the D with the rule emphasis has altered Matt's D closer to Gene's in that he used to play a little more belly up. Change the wording a bit and it fits in some places :)
THE ENGINEER AND THE MANAGER

A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes that he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts, "Excuse me. Can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him half an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man below says, "Yes. You are in a hot air balloon, hovering approximately 30 feet above this field. You are between 40 and 42 degrees north latitude, and between 58 and 60 degrees west longitude.

"You must be an engineer" says the balloonist.
"I am", replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well..." says the balloonist. "Everything you told be was technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information and the fact is I am still lost."

The man below says, "You must be a Manager"

"I am", replies the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well..." says the man. "You don't know where you are, or where you are going. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in the exact same position you were in before we met but now it is somehow
my fault."

That might not fit on the bumper sticker :)

A pessimist looks at a glass of water as being half empty.
An optimist sees the glass as being half full of water.
An engineer says the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
I thought we just hired a Baseball Coach? He seems to be doing a pretty good job.

The only correct answer is the glass is twice as large as it needs to be…the others are opinion with a bias. The stock market did fine the other day.

Going to guess with the hires lately (baseball and football), the new athleti department doesn't care if it's a Purdue guy/girl or not...they want the best damn candidate possible.

By the way, the baseball team is 13-10 after going 10-44 last season.
