WHAT'S WRONG WITH PU

THE ANNOUNCERS TODAY said PU just didn't have the talent. Are we not getting good enough players to compete? Is our Freshman class any better? I'm getting so disappointed every week, every year even. I'm also getting tired of the jokes and comments strangers make that I no longer wear identifying garb. How have we sank so low. PU used to be a powerhouse that other teams didn't want to play. The higher they were rated the easier they fell, PU was routinely called the Spoilermakers. What has happened?

Recruiting classes have been very bottom of BIG 10 for years. Honestly, not that surprising. Low rated recruiting classes give low margin of error.

I think we have also struggled with finding a quarterback. Hence even more problems.

Hey, but they are in the Top 25 for number of player arrests (14 so far). sarcasm intended......

The only thing wrong with Purdue is they have no interest in having a winning football program! So if they give Hazell a lifetime contract, this will assure them that they will never win another game!

I've been wondering the same thing as the OP. When I was a kid just starting to get into football, Purdue really had it rolling with Joe Tiller and an offensive system filled with play makers. I grew up thinking that a trip to Ross Ade by my Hawkeyes usually meant an ugly loss (the 2003 game, for example, was a lot worse than it appeared on the scoreboard). Looking at Purdue today, it's almost surreal to me that the once feared Boilers have sunk to this level. Has your university administration changed its commitment to football and football resources?

Hope things turnaround-- the league was better when you guys were playing basketball on grass on New Years and holding your own with the Ohio States of the world.

Oh, and obligatory protected rivalry shot (since you're our most hated rival and stuff): I hate Purdue and everything the Boilers stand for and...well, you know the rest.

thanks for the kind words, this a terrible mess. Your team is doing well and I know you guys have been disgruntled w/ Capt Kirk in the past but I always liked him. So continued good luck.

I think the announcers were right on target. The team plays like a well coached team, but they lack true elite speed, and have very few playmakers. We don't have the receivers that can get separation. We don't have the D-backs that can cover good receivers. We don't have the killer D-Ends like we used to have. This is not a in-game coaching failure, it is a recruiting problem.

Not so fast. They choked away one helluva lead and Rutgers can score/get a field go and win.

The Bucket game will be a battle for the basement.
Seeing IU choke that away was unreal.I don't mind being wrong. This is Wilsons fifth year and they are still clueless.Hazell and Wilson have combined for seven Big Ten wins and forty seven losses. How awful. No wonder Indiana is still a basketball state, will it ever change?

The sooner we all worry less about what IU's football program is doing and focus on what we can do at Purdue, the better off we'll be. Indiana football should be an afterthought. I wouldn't care if we stopped the stupid "Old Oaken Bucket" tradition - all it does is reinforce the attitude of:

"if we win 2 or 3 games and beat IU we call it a success".

We should return the practice of including a football season ticket included with tuition and start some pre-game traditions like a Friday Night Pep Rally - and make it fun and relatable to today's students! Don't get the Purdue Band to play "Proud Mary" because the Band Director thinks that is "what the kids want to hear" - get some popular local musical bands to play and make it fun even for kids that aren't big sports fans.

Let the students mix with the players to develop friendships and take some "selfies" with players/coaches to send to Mom & Dad. Give the students who come to the Pep Rally paraphernalia like Purdue towels to wave at the game, Purdue pencils, whatever. College football is a great tradition and should be an integral part of at least the Freshman year. When a recruit goes to Notre Dame, Penn State, UM, OSU for a visit and experiences their football weekends - a football weekend at Purdue looks like any other weekend.
