What's the infactuation with Aussie punters?

Without max protection to their punting side, I see opps for blocks once the video clips reveal their weaknesses. An additional .2-.5 sec more to get to their preferred punting side equals more blocks in my opinion.
A wobbly bouncing ball might sound attractive to get a recovery, but a block will be an equalizer not worth it. My $.02 from an old fart perspective. A Tony Levine type special teams coach would figure it out and exploit the Aussie.

I believe that punting during a play is part of Aussie-rules football. Therefore their punters should be able to punt on the run. Also, I believe that they can score points while punting, therefore accuracy may also enter in. I think that this would apply pressure to the defense if the punter took off running as it could be a real run or a punt with the punter having the option. Hopefully this will add to our game. I don't think that it could get much worse than it was.

The Aussie kids go to a kicking academy where that is all they do, kick. They train, train and train some more. They Ll grow up playing rugby so I suspect they're way more athletic then the average punter as well.

What's more fascinating though to me about Australian punters is that they don't handle their own recruiting, the academy does. They set up kids based on personality and where they think kids will fit in the best and that's where they send the kids.

For Indiana, Hayden Whitehead worked out great for us and we got another kid this year who we hope will do the same James Evans. James says that he can actually kick with both feet equal distance if needed, but will stick with his right foot.

It does usually take longer to get the punt off but the flipside is it allows more time for your coverage to get down the field. Some teams will teach the punter to keep rolling until they feel some pressure. There are a lot of flavors but there is no indication that they are blocked at a higher rate than normal punts, as far as I know.

Yeah, I would think the small amount of additional time to get off the punt would be offset by the fact that the target is not in a fixed position.

Aussie punters seems no different than Canadian hockey players, Brazilian soccer players, or basketball players from Indiana. When your best athletes do something from an early age, you are going to produce a lot of good ones.

Whether we have an Aussie punter or not, we unfortunately still have our same horrible special teams coach. Hoping he would have been one of the coaching changes going into this new year. Didn’t happen.

That and you don't have to block the away side as nobody will ever get to the ball from there. So you can usually go +blockers to the roll-out side and still get guys downfield from the backside.

There's no glamor in punting. If an American kid doesn't see it on Sportscenter why would he become proficient at it?
