Not talking about pass oriented offenses. I'm talking about the one thing that Purdue and Tennessee have in common that separates us from everyone else...No school has more Heisman Runner-Ups without ever having a Heisman Winner, than our two schools. Purdue (3) - Griese ('66), Keyes ('68), Phipps (69). Tennessee (4) - Lauricella ('51), Majors ('56), Shuler ('93), Manning ('97).

Is this really the Music City Bowl we are playing in...or is it the Bridesmaid Bowl.

The voting really went wrong with Brees for Purdue (who was Heisman that year?), and Manning for Tennessee.

We were one draft pick away from Leaf in Indianapolis. The Colts could have been like the Browns. Dodged that bullet.

The guy who really got screwed was Griese. Steve Spurrier won that year after his Florida Gator defense literally laid down on the ground and allowed the opponents to score a late touchdown in the final game of the season. This allowed the Gator offense to come back on the field and Spurrier gained some more passing yeards, which in turn enabled him to lead the nation in passing offense. That's how he won the Heisman a couple of weeks later.

Who would you say is the last Heisman winner to accomplish anything in the NFL?

Cam Newton is the last Heisman to be on a Super Bowl Roster in 2016.

Desmond Howard is the last Heisman/SB MVP and that was in 1997!

We both are repulsed by Indiana.

Heupel finishing #2 was the bigger joke. Fewer yards, TD, and more INT than Drew.
QB on undefeated team trumps all other logic.
That really has been an issue since the late 80's or early 90's. If you are the QB or RB for an undefeated team, you are more than likely finishing at least in the top 2 for the Heisman.

For Tennessee, Johnny Majors was the halfback (in the wing-T...it was more like a QB) for a 1956 Tennessee team that finished the regular season undefeated (and Heisman voting was between the regular season and the bowl games). He lost to Paul Hornung...the only time the Heisman trophy has been awarded to a player on a team with a losing record (ND was 2-8 that season).

Interestingly enough, Hornung and Majors became very close friends later in life, talking to each other at least once per week on the phone. One time in an interview, Hornung was ribbing Majors about it and said, "Johnny...who do you really think should have won the Heisman in '56"? Majors shot back, "Jim Brown". Majors died in June 2020, and Hornung died in November of that year...so I guess Hornung edged Majors out again.

I think if the Heisman committee could do a re-vote now on the ‘68 Heisman, they would give it to Keyes instead of OJ.

If the Heisman committee could do a re-vote now on the ‘66 Heisman, they would give it to Bob Griese instead of Steve Spurrier.

Purdue had three Heisman runner-ups in four years and one in the top three for four straight years:

1966Steve Spurrier - QB,
Florida
Bob Griese - QB,
Purdue
Nick Eddy - RB,
Notre Dame
1967Gary Beban - QB,
UCLA
O.J. Simpson - RB,
Southern Cal
Leroy Keyes - RB,
Purdue
1968O.J. Simpson - RB,

Leroy Keyes - RB,
Purdue
Terry Hanratty - QB,
Notre Dame
1969Steve Owens - RB,
Oklahoma
Mike Phipps - QB,
Purdue
Rex Kern - QB,
Ohio State
