It's always fun to watch people react when I say I graduated from Purdue. It is a source of pride in that it garners instant credibility.

Except with a certain segment within the state that thinks everything in life revolves around what your school did on the hardwood 30-40 years ago.

The unique train moscot (old one) makes me proud, not some kind of stupid animals such as bulldog, wildcat, eagles, lion, monkey, hippo....

I'll sum it up by saying that since I have been traveling a lot for work, I see IU grads all over the state and ND grads/fans all over the country, but I see Purdue grads all over the world. It is good to hear that familiar "Boiler Up!" In Africa and Asia as well as all over the US .... And it is even more comforting to know that Purdue and its values have such a pervasive presence.

My diploma, being a Purdue Engineer. The continuing sense of pride to be a part of such an awesome institution. I do get the "boiler up" a lot more around town these days (I usually have a hat or shirt logo).

I've found the further away you get from IN, the reputation of the school improves.
That's absolutely true. And I'll also bet most of us (living outside of Indiana) have had someone ask us at one time or another if Purdue is an Ivy League school. Purdue's rep is excellent, and it's because its grads are generally accomplished at whatever they chose to pursue.

I have lived in Iowa and Illinois and have often had people ask me or think that Purdue is a private school. Good reputation outside of the state.

The single most important thing to me is the hard nosed work ethic and effort of Purdue students, Purdue faculty, Purdue leadership, and Purdue athletes. Of course there are exceptions, but Purdue folks live full throttle, and are extremely loyal to their communities, companies, families, and the old Gold and Black!

Just imagine the times Mackey arena has exploded because of somebody diving for a loose ball! That is Purdue!
