This game could be an indication on how far Purdue can go this year. It won't be easy. Illinois has the bugs,,the quickness, speed, atheleticism and shooting to be very hard for Purdue to overcome. Especially at Illinois and with Purdue difficulties on defense. At least 7 of these ten things have to happen for Purdue to win,min no particular order:

1.Purdue will need to score 85+ point. Illinois averages 80, likely to do that or better against Purdue.
2.Bigs need to stay out of early foul trouble.
3. Ivey will need to score 20 plus and stay mostly under control
4. Some role player or two,Furst, Morton, Newman, Thompson, Hunter, will have to make a positive contribution.
5.Edey / Williams will need to total at last 30/15
6.Sasha will need to shoot 40% and hit at least three threes.
7.Ivey will need to play like Ivey.
8.Bigs and Ivey get Kofi in foul trouble
9.Purdue shoots close to 50%
10. Purdue turns it over 15 times or less, no more than 1 turnovers for touchdowns. ( Directly leading to scores)

Have at it.

Purdue need Furst to get back to were he was. We are a much better rebounding team when he is out there, but they miss Masson's three point shooting.

I for one feel the team plays in a better rhythm when Furst is out there.

Not a problem. Platoon Gillis with Edey then Furst with Williams

Numbers 9 & 10 along with rebounding are the most important. If Purdue knocks down shots (most important). Limits turnovers and rebounds well, they'll win. If not.....it'll be a battle.

Purdue is the better team. If they play well, there are not many teams that can handle them.

Here's how I see the breakdown:

Edey/Kofi - UI
Gillis Vs Williams - Even for the glue guys
Sasha Vs Granderson - UI
Ivey Vs Plummer - PU
Thompson Vs Frazier - UI
Bench - Huge advantage PU

Keys:
1. Can Ivey shut down Plummer? He has tools to do it. Had nice game on D against McGowan.
2. Can Hunter/Thompson keep Frazier around scoring average? No career game here.
3. 10 TO's or less
4. Fight. Purdue should want this one more being 2 games back.

Side thought, has any team benefited more than Illinois in the B1G from the extra covid year and one time transfer rules? How bad would they be without Plummer, Frazier, and Williams? Without those guys you wonder if Kofi sticks around too.

Very true. Also likely that Ayo does not return for his JR season if not for the uncertainty about that year's draft.

I like our chances if Sasha is hot. And scores 21+. I can’t remember any game Purdue has lost when he’s hot. Notice 21 being a multiple of 3.

There are a lot of ways that this game can be won or lost, but I am most interested to see if Edey and Williams can take it to Kofi and get him in foul trouble.

I’m not sure Illinois wants the game to be up tempo. I think they’d feel better about a half court grinding game. I would think It favors Purdue to be in a more uptempo game in the 80’s.

Obviously, this is going to be a close game. We need to do the little things right and bring the intensity.

If our stars, Ivey, Williams and Edey play good games, not great, and our 3 pt shooters hit 40% we win this game. Illini streaky from 3 pt line, if we keep Kofi under control, which I see no reason we won't , we win by 5-7. We are the better team, especiallly now with Carbello.

Or Purdue finally plays lock down defense. Let Cockburn have his and shut down the guards.

I think it would help Purdue if the refs called hand checks and grabs a little more than the average big 10 game. Probably not going to happen in Champaign but it would help Purdue and make the game a little easier to watch in general.
