We finally played a very talented team who didn't know us, who we didn't know and who didn't care about a "relationship" with Purdue.
We've played very talented Ohio state and notre Dame teams but scouting them was much easier.. After all you have tape of you playing them from last year... And week to week you are plugged in to who they are.
You know them, they know you, and even if they're far better the attitude is kind of "let's go to west Lafayette, get a clear win and get out. But let's not empty the cupboard to embarrass our fellow big ten team/long time little brother (notre dame).
Virginia Tech didn't know us and didn't care. To them... We could have been any other team in the country, so they were happy to take their very talented players (just like what Ohio state has had in years we kept it respectable) and empty the clip.
And you saw what it looked like. You saw where we are. A game that very, very easily could have been 62-3 without garbage time and unforced errors by the Hokies
