Can OConnell come back for a 6th year with the Pandemic? Do we have a 4 start recruit who is reshirted? Are we getting a 4 star Recruit? Do we trust Plummer? Is Plummer back? Is Michael Alaimo any good?

O’Connell can come back. If he does, I expect Plummer or Burton (or both) to look to transfer. Alaimo should be ready if anything happens and of course Allen is getting here as a very highly touted 4 star.

If O’Connell chooses not to return then I expect qb to be a two man race between Plummer and Alaimo. I think Alaimo will win personally but I have nothing but my gut telling me that.

I don’t get much more living in Georgia but I have heard some people compare Alaimo to Sindelar as far as throwing the ball. There was a good article about his off season regimen last summer I believe and of course was highly rated coming out of high school. This will be his 3rd year in the program so I would expect a jump this year.

Allen is putting up insane numbers in southern Indiana this year as a Senior. This was from a recent article.

“I think he’s like 23 of 35 last night and it dropped his completion percentage,” Gibson Southern head coach Nick Hartsaid. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Allen came into the game completing over 75 percent of his passes for 1,451 yards and 22 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

My brother who lives in southern Indiana still has seen him twice this year and said he looks incredible.

Probably unlikely Allen is ready in year one but who knows. Seems to be very good.

The issue is Alaimo didnt have good college numbers, but he was highly recruited. Allen has me excited from your quote. Freshman can play though, Trevor Lawerence did ok as a freshman, lol...i know 1st overall picks and was a top 5 all time QB recruit, lol.

From what i raid, Alaimo was even more recruited and higher ranked than Allen despite the insane numbers.

How did Alaimo redshirt 2 years? Covid then normal redshirt?

This article has Oconnell as one of the top 11 QBs for the 2022 draft. I said a few weeks ago that if he put up big numbers for the remaining handful of games or so he'd have a big decision to make. Another good showing against IU and what should be a decent opponent in our bowl should increase his stock even more. I dont think there's any doubt now that he's on people's radar.

We were his only D1 offer right? If he comes back I wonder if he could go top 6 or 7. The risk is that this is a really, really bad QB draft so that helps him.

Typically 10 QB's or so get drafted, maybe less this year. So he is at best 6 or 7 rounder, but most likely a UFA camp invite. I think he might have a Blough level chance in the NFL.

It will be a tough decision, this could be his best opportunity to get into the NFL on a practice squad for now and work his way into game action some day.

It would be so huge for us to get him back. I want him to do what’s best for him, but if he works on his quickness some more and gets some more experience he could do even better than top 11.. I don’t think most people who root for Purdue know just how good he is at the parts that are the hardest for QBs to master. Then you add the clutch gene he has and he has a chance to do special things in this game

I've been checking on NFL draft sites for the last few weeks including the site I posted above, and this is the first I've seen of him mentioned. So he's really come out of literally nowhere. Out of draft eligle QBs, is there anyone playing better than him? I dont watch enough others to answer, but I doubt there's 10 better right now.

Again if he plays lights out over the next 2 games, I would expect him to garner more attention. Again, potentially a huge decision...a lot of factors in play.

For reference: Kyle Orton was taken in the 4th rd, 7th qb taken that year.

This is really a horrible QB draft, like historically bad, so you are probably right there arent 10 QB's playing better.

But your assumption there are 10 QB's from this draft that will make a NFL roster might be tough, or maybe not an assumption you are making.

I am a NFL junkie, and i have no idea what the right decision is for OConnell. Also, if he makes an NFL roster, does he serve Purdue recruiting better showing that Blough and him can make the NFL roster as QB's not even on the radar before they came to Purdue. As mentioned, we have talent coming at the QB position, just inexperienced talent.

Its a tough call.

From a 247 article: Allen has completed over 70 percent of his passes for 3,855 yards and 53 touchdowns to just three interceptions. His 11,520 career passing yards ranks second in state history and 144 touchdowns ranks No. 1.

He's not a lock for Mr. Football for Indiana, but he has a very good shot at it.

O'Connell had no D1 offers, or D2 for that matter. He was recruited by Wheaton, a D3 school not far from his hometown.

That fact is honestly amazing. Like a Kurt Warner coming from nowhere to make a NFL HOF career.

Proud of O'Connell. So why did he end up at Purdue?

Alaimo is very talented, strong arm and fluid

Brohm was tipped off about O'Connell by a private QB/receivers coach that had worked with Aiden in the Chicago area. O'Connell's brother played(plays?) on the Wheaton College team on defense.
Regarding Allen, he seems to have both the physical and mental tools to possibly join the "Cradle of Quarterbacks" list, but I certainly wouldn't count out Alaimo either.

He walked on here. No offer. Unless you count PWO as an offer.
