What are the chances of...

Tom Allen is a great recruiter in Indiana. That hire doesn't help Purdue much. Sorry.

I'll break it down in simplistic terms and leave it to you to connect the dots; try and keep up.

1) Repeat after me: the B1G west is easier than the B1G east.

2) There are 50 states in the union, not 1.

3) 6-6 is a high water mark for IU.

4) Michigan is a guaranteed loss for IU.

5) Ohio State is a guaranteed loss for IU.

6) Penn State is a guaranteed loss for IU.

7) Maryland is out-recruiting IU, and will surpass IU within a few years.

BONUS:

8) 40-72-6 all time vs. Purdue.

Now run along.

IU and Purdue may be in the two toughest spots in all of the power five in football......you have small fanbases in a medium sized state (that is also home to a blue blooded power) and a limited natural recruiting footprint. Unfortunately for IU, it is in the toughest division in the country.

I don't view it that way. IU could've tested the open market and landed someone with HC experience and keep Allen on staff as DC. Now, IU and Purdue aren't competing for coaches and IU has a coach with no HC experience. I'm happy with the decision.

Thread is now moot. IU settled for their DC. He's good as DC, but hasn't yet run a program successfully. This is like Purdue hiring Spack. Good for the boilers in the near term and hopefully into the future.

at IU he is anyway. Of course their defense was so bad for so long that it didn't take much to look good. Now he's their head coach after one season. I'm stunned.
Plus, you likely weaken yourself on defense because Allen will now have to devote much of his time to running the program, overseeing the offense and special teams, managing the coaching staff, dealing with media, alumni, etc. etc.

I do think it will solidify their instate recruiting, but at what cost?

This was a knee-jerk hire if there ever was one. Makes Glass look incredibly lazy. Why the rush? Where the hell was their D.C. Going to go? Glass must have vacation time coming up and didn't want to bothered by researching a new hire.
Side note: I would love Wilson as an OC for Purdue.

And, yet, IU was very competitive with UM, should have beat Penn St., and could have beat OSU...never mind have beat Purdue 4 years in a row now.

At the moment, their program is light years ahead of Purdue's, an unfortunate reality.

Light years apparently equals two points in your navi-computer.

And IU just fired one of their greatest coaches (not that much of a stretch)...and Purdue just fired their worse...how long that difference going to be there?

Any truth to the rumor IU made a offer to Brohm before offering Allen that he rejected?

In IU's case, moral victories are equivalent to real ones.

On a side note, I'm beginning to believe other posters who take you for a closet IU fan. Perhaps Peegs is your true home.

First, they at least have real ones...second, Purdue doesn't even have moral ones.

Yes, you got me...come on, there is barely interest in Purdue football at this point for/with Purdue fans, what IU fan would bother...especially given the state of the two programs?

Well. I'm watching the weirdest news conference right now. New coach is going to start bawling. Weird

Even weirder. Tom Crean was reportedly running through campus with great exuberance while yelling, "No more wedgies!!!!!"

What the heck is going on down there in Bloomingtucky?

Fred "Dead in the Head" Glass has always been an idiot.

Someone was going to hire Tom Allen as a HC very soon. He reminds me of Terry Heoppner. Yes, IU plays in the East division. But Tom Allens defenses will keep us competitive. If he hires a competent OC, they will be fine. Kevin Wilson teams were exciting at times but also very sloppy and undisciplined. He coached us into some losses.

Spread the clap around campus Tommy !!

You might be right on the first point, although I am not aware of his name coming up at any program of even remote significance. It is not hard to make the case that he has done a nice job and made a difference, but, hard to believe that IU could not have placed the interim tag on him and at least considered other (if not better) options...never mind, as the HC, his impact on the defense likely is (and will) not be the same.

Someone like Mark Hagen can call the plays. It will still be Tom Allen's scheme and input. IU will be fine. We could've hired Nick Saban and you guys would find a way to make it sound bad. It's wishful thinking. The future will play itself out.

The future will play out.Purdues historically bad era is over.Things are looking up in West Lafayette.Boiler up.

So he was abruptly fired for 'philosophical differences '
And glass confirms he did not mishandle player health.
Hmmmm
Seems like an unwise stance for glass

Uh if you would have hired Saban, this board would implode. It would be inundated with posts of "How does IU get (insert SEC coach here) and we get (insert G5 coach here)??"

Allen is a bad hire. BAD hire for IU. Knee jerk gut reaction to the fear of losing the only DC who had a positive impact on your team. He's has only been DC for two years and now he's going to run an entire program. Good luck.
