Someone down below said that we should expect to win the conference championship every year.
We've had the other extreme which seems to hold just making the NCAA tourney most years is good enough at Purdue.
So what are reasonable expectations at Purdue?
My thought:
1. We should expect an upper level finish every season. In a 14-team conference, that's not unreasonable.
2. We should expect to be competitive for an NCAA tourney appearance every season. That does not mean we should expect never to miss, but that those misses shouldn't be near last place seasons. We should expect to make the NIT in the seasons we miss the NCAAs.
3. We should expect one BT title every 4 years. That's not really all that far off from our history in the conference.
4. We should expect a top 4 finish 2 out of every 4 years.
5. We should expect an Elite 8 once every 4-5 years. Again, not a final four, just an elite 8, and not horribly out of line with past Purdue history.
As for final four? Well, considering the last time we were there Carter was President...it's probably not a reasonable expectation at this point.
