I'm sure that people like Klare/Heldt and others will be playing for other teams next year. So it will be worse that this year! Unless W is fired and replaced with a respectable coach

I followed this train wreck of a season but somehow missed the adversity that sat in after the Nebraska game.....
What is Ryan Walters eluding to???

I was wondering the same thing. I thought maybe he was going to say Notre Dame, but he didn’t, he said Nebraska.

Maybe he was talking about the firing of Harrell? That’s all I can think of.

when you get beat 66-0, are there any "good" players?
I think there is some talent on the roster, it's just not being developed and put in a position to succeed. Problem is the defensive scheme the head coach refuses to change plays to our players' weaknesses and not their strengths. Lining Thieneman up 20-30 yards of the line of scrimmage every play makes zero sense. The offense is a mess, but I think there are a couple quality players on that side, Mockobee, Klare, Hartwig, Mbow. The right quarterback and a good offensive line makes a huge difference in today's game. We didn't have either. We had a couple pieces of an offensive line and a fraud at quarterback.

I don’t see how any player would want to play for Walters after this year. He is terrible at player evaluation and has no clue on making adjustments . He can talk all he wants, but talk means nothing, it’s what happens that matters
embarrassed. Theyve been embarrassed. They work hard year round to compete and they have nothing to show for it except all time records for losses and point margins. Im shocked we didnt see more issues on the sidelines. I fear purdue is caught with their pants down. I hope they didnt plan on offering up a new commitment to the program by getting an expensive oc to calm the masses. If so, they grossly underestimated what a horrible hire walters was and that the players and fans will leave in large numbers. He needs fired today. Bobo needs to talk to the players and what recruits we have left and give everyone a sense that purdue is committed to winning. I honestly feel bobo should have been let go during the season and wslters at the bye but something needs done with urgency now.

Mock has 2500 career rushing yards. There are probably other players on the roster who can be productive with better coaching.
Never been a big fan of Mock. Plays hard, gives his all, but still fumbles way too often, doesn't have a second gear, no homerun ability. Do any other B10 schools have a former walkon as their starting RB? Probably few other B10 teams he'd start for.

not arguing, but yesterday they pointed out that Mich's qb Warren is a former walkon and their one wr who made a nice catch

Mock looked good because he was the only rb Purdue actually had. Most other RBs that fumbled as much as he did would have been benched. One talks about mock having 2500 yards. That’s an average of 600 yards a season or about 60 yards a game. Is a 60 yard a game runner really that great?

Asking for a friend.

But again, he's a walk-on, which gives you an idea of the talent level. Add into the equation that he has a fumbling problem, and he's not a big loss. There are plenty of MAC or other experience RBs to get from the portal who would likely be an upgrade.

It all depends. Theres probably alot of guys that rushed for over 60 yards per game that couldnt have with the hand mock was dealt.

At Purdue, that is almost elite level production

That’s true, but playing behind that offensive line is almost Heisman trophy numbers.

Hey Wole,

Better tell your friend to get his or her facts straight. That's for three seasons.

I understand some criticism from you and other posters - that's fair. But some of it just seems unrealistic, and I guess I just don't get it. That's on me I suppose.

Devin Mockobee - ok, no he's not a game-breaker or second coming of Eric Dickerson, but he's not the problem in the offense. Yeah, the fumbles (a couple last night) are a problem. Four this season, 9 last season, and only one under Brohm.....maybe that's a coincidence? There's a way to handle that. Putting that aside, the kid works his tail off, runs hard.....no he doesn't have break-away speed, but he still has broken some big runs.

He is 7th on Purdue's all-time list in rushing yards, and if he stays next year, he could possibly get all the way to second on the list behind Mike Alstott. He's averaged 5.4 yds/rush with 21 TD's. Grounded and deserved his scholarship, no question. Also has skills receiving. JMHO, but I don't think he has been utilized most efficiently......plus, once Purdue gets behind 2TD's quickly in just about every game.....he's neutralized to quite a big extent.

I would take him on my team any day......

END RANT!

Ok, so do the math and it comes to 80 yards a game. To me that’s still mediocrity. But he’s still better than anybody else Purdue had.

And I will agree he was poorly developed because all Purdue players were poorly developed.

I also agree his talents were not properly utilized. But that goes without saying about almost every single Purdue player.

A question to ask and I admit I don’t know the answer. If Mock played for a school with a real offensive line and known for their running game such as UW, would he have started and enjoyed better success?

I went to the OSU /Michigan game yesterday. And each team has a very good offensive line. However, I saw some of the worst play calling ever. The OSU coach kept running plays sending his RB straight up the middle for 1-2 yards. It was clear those plays were not working.

That is why I bring up the question about utilization. Was Mock being properly utilized?

I realize it’s sacrilegious and blasphemy to suggest a Purdue player is not as great as you fans think he is. That’s like saying Deirking was not the greatest player of all time. Nobody can ever suggest a player is not as great as their fans think he is. It’s like saying there are better point guards in college basketball than Braden Smigh. Even if true, one should never say so on a Purdue forum.

That’s why I point out the wrongly utilized category. I believe we all could provide examples of Purdue running backs who have done a lot better in the NFL because their actual talents have been properLu utilized.

For those of you who love MOCK, Do you believe he would be any better if he played elsewhere? Or is what he has displayed at Purdue as good as it gets?

there’s one of your great degrees at work, 2,500 / 3 is over 800 yards a year. He’s only a junior. Another 800’ysrd season would make him 4th all time yards at RB behind Alstott, Sheets, Armstrong. You want to tell kory sheets he was only good for 60 yards a game and it’s not really that great?

60 yds a game is pretty solid - no problem with that output….

Mock probably gets the most out of his talent, but his talent isn't that great. He plays hard, etc, but he's not a difference-maker and he fumbles way too much. I doubt he'd start on many other B10 teams.

Really? If you're a starting RB, you're probably getting 15-20 rushes a game. 60/game is only 3-4 yards a rush and not having the ability to his the homerun.

Yep
Compared to what we’ve seen I’m good with it.
Would prefer an 80-100 yd guy of course as the started with Mock as #2.
But beggars can’t be choosers!

Well, I guess it goes with the current state of the program if you're starting RB and no 1 offensive option only averages 60/game, can't break the big one and has a fumbling problem.

I suspect some players will depart for greener pastures. Some will stick around to see who comes in as replacement.

Will be hard to keep Klare and Edgerinn. Would also need to go find a QB in the portal. I'd like to see a dual threat guy, not a pocket passer.

Have you looked at the freshman Davila kid? He looked solid in the spring game - big, fast and strong arm.
Hoping he doesn’t transfer…

Bring in a guy with a high powered offense and I think they'd have no problem staying where they'd be pretty much guaranteed to start.

Honestly, didn't know much about him. Would like to see some tape. I was at the USC/Clemson game yesterday and the USC QB (who might win the Heisman) is incredible. Big, fast, strong, incredibly difficult to contain and get down. Anytime the pass protection broke down, he made something happen.
When our pass protect breaks down, seems like our QBs fold.
