West Lafayette, Ind.
Traded texts yesterday with recent Purdue offensive tackle Davis Perrott, who requested an interview be done that way, to get some info on where he is with things right now after his visit to West Lafayette.

Perrott is committed to Washington State.

He said he's "pretty solid" with the Cougars but "still talking with Purdue and Boise State right now."

"They recruited me pretty me pretty hard and I made a last minute decision to visit," Perrott said via text. "It is definitely a little bit of a consideration right now."

Why did the three-star offensive tackle want to visit?

"Really like the offense they run and also got a impression from the coaches when we met in December," Perrott wrote/said.

Those coaches were Jim Bridge and John Shoop that visited with him last month. Bridge was back in Arizona to meet with Perrott again Tuesday.

One of Perrott's high school coaches also told us yesterday that the offensive tackle remains a Washington State commit but wanted to make a visit to Purdue "to be sure of his decision."

Yesterday's news of Isaac Warren committing to Northwestern State days before he was scheduled to officially visit Purdue with a renewed offer in hand - that's according to his high school coach - was unexpected.

We're not in the business of pressing kids on their decisions to go elsewhere but we did shoot Warren a text to see if Purdue still wanted him to visit, since this reeked of a cancelation on the school's part.

"I guess not anymore," he replied.

And so ends that weird recruitment, one that Purdue obviously withdrew from for the second time just as it looked like it had jumped back in.

Tight end Brycen Hopkins has now picked up Florida and Houston offers, but said last night he will take no other official visits. Consider him firmly committed to Purdue.

Defensive tackle Eddy Wilson had Kirk Ferentz to see him last night.

Wilson continues to see he's not decided whether to take another visit this weekend, but we'd expect he will.

Losing him might really put Purdue in a bind since he's their only DT recruit to this point.

We'd expect Purdue to have some defensive tackles on campus for visit this weekend.

We already told you about Arkansas State commitment Fred Brown being scheduled.

We suspect he has an offer, as Purdue wouldn't be bringing him in, in all likelihood, if he did not or would not.

As of this morning, nothing yet from Canadian defensive end Mathieu Betts, who told Purdue he'd have a decision by today whether he was going to accept its offer after visiting this weekend.

We got the sense from him he was going to take it, but he said as of this morning, he'd not decided. He's choosing between countries, not schools.

We have been doing these quick informal notebooks the past few days and they are likely to leave us light on the football recruiting front for BO on Thursday so please consider these an extension of BO. Thank you.
