A ton of people at the practice. Outside about 50 degrees and a haze (not what you're thinking). Brownsburg sent about 8-10 coaches and there were several other groups of coaches. Just a sprinkling of recruits, one from York HS, 6'5" 235 LB (his dad is a Purdue grad). He was all conference and is an excellent student. Both seem to be outstanding men! Kinda listened in to Holt talk to the pair and then met Holt. Seems to be VERY intense (not like Brohm, who, by comparison, is laid-back).

Met the AD, apparently he is a 'neighbor' (1/2 mile away). Seems to be a good guy. (What can you tell in a 2 minute conversation?)

It's hard for this untrained eye to get a true sense of the QB situation, but here goes. Blough is running with the 1's and looked good except for hitting the safety chest high on one play. Sipe seems to be running with the 2's, then Plummer, then Griffin. Elijah threw for the first 30 minutes in a couple of drills on the real grass field. Arm looks strong as ever and he jogged normally from spot to spot. Griffin seems to have put on some muscle after his surgery during last season and threw pretty well. It's hard during drills to actually see much difference among the first 4, but game knowledge, experience and reactions are the key, and you don't see much of that in drills.

Since it's spring ball, there's a great deal of movement, with different players coming in, in different situations, but there doesn't seem to be of a shakeup of what you would expect on the OL (Barron, Yacoobi, Swingler, McCann - I'm missing somebody, but I don't know who).

RB featured 'the 8-ball' and Horvath (who seems very big to me). D.J. was in street clothes, and I don't know what Tario or Worship look like, so I'm assuming they were there.

Receivers featured Wright (a bunch of catches), Anthrop (a bunch of catches), Franklin, Catlett, Zico, Pitman and Trussel. Generally, in that order.

Coach was 'fired up' a couple of times at some of the gaffs, both physical and mental and displayed it. His final chat included a description of practice as 'mediocre', with a challenge to the defense to come out with some emotion for the rest of the spring.

Really appreciate you providing these daily updates.

I wonder if Knox is just being held out to limit reps and contact in the off season....in his mic'd up session, he looks real explosive and likely the best all around back Purdue has (imo). A combo of Jones, Knox, and Fuller is an incredibly talented group that would likely be the best outside of Whisky and OSU (me not doing any sort of research on that and just going by my fuzzy memories to November-ish).

I see no mention of Tyler Hamilton and I haven't seen his name on Hammer & Rails. Have there been any sightings or comments? Thought with his swivel hips, speed and 39" vertical jump there would be some sign of him on the field.

I’m more surprised I haven’t heard Amad Anderson’s name. I know he was supposed to be a mid year enrollee. He, Taylor & Rondale each bring something different. Add in Wright and there are some serious wheels on the roster.

I looked for Amad, but didn't see him. I have seen him at earlier practices and Brohm had specifically complimented him on a couple of catches.

Knox told me he 'was a little dinged up' and wanted to be sure to be ready for the spring game (which I cannot attend - dang!). I don't think he wanted me to divulge the injury.

[digressing for a minute] My son-in-law, a huge Wiscoldsin Badger fan, was really impressed with Knox. So after practice on Monday, I said "let's go meet him". He was even more impressed after meeting him.

One high school coach (I believe from New Albany) said he made the rounds to all the schools within a couple hundred miles of N.A. I asked him about our facilities compared to other Big Fourteen schools and he said he was really impressed with the Boilermaker complex (he had taken the tour earlier that day). He commented that the weight facilities were massive and impressive. The locker room was gigantic.

Talked at length with Jake Herr, walkon punter from Carmel. Neat kid. Studying sports medicine, but wants to be a doctor. Very sharp intellectually. With my chemistry background, we talked a bit about some of his coursework, organic, biochem, etc. He didn't realize that Purdue has a very small med program, thought he was going to have to attend the school in Garbageton down south (didn't even want to say the dreaded 'I' word).

Brownsburg - I didn't realize that a HS would have 8-10 coaches, but there were at least that number at practice.

From varsity on down to freshman, I’d say Harrison has 10-12 which includes their operations guy who coaches their youth program as well. One of the reasons Harrison has improved so quickly...Terry Peebles is an excellent coach but he has brought in and retained some great positions coaches (Jon Wheat as his DC is a great coach)

Thank you, sir! So at this point would you put David at 95% or better in terms of mobility?

Strange to me to see Jon Wheat's name on here. Played baseball together for a year in high school. Never was a great athlete but was very personable and was a good mentor as a senior and I a freshman. My sister, who is the counselor at Harrison, was surprised to run into another South Dearborn Graduate. Glad to hear of his success!

He has been a wonderful addition to our staff at HHS...I don't think I've met many more knowledgeable individuals on Presidential history. I'm glad I'm able to call him a friend.

Would your sister be Tanner, Staszewski, or Green?
