we would've gotten mauled by Iowa State...

In hindsight after watching many of these NCAA games. Purdue's starting back court was subpar to say the LEAST. Sorry R Davis and PJ. I hope R Davis did have an injury issue because most of the season he was not good on offense and did not play defense the way he did last year. Davis outside shooting was spotty at best. His drives in the lane were mostly unfinishes... Starting 2 guard avg what 8 points? With a team that had a front line forcing others to pack it in opening the outside. Matt was way to loyal to R Davis this year. As for PJ. PJ is a Good BACKUP point guard for a good team.

If this Carsen Edwards or that other red shirt PG show any potential early. They should be given every opportunity to take that starting point guard job. OR Matt should go out on the recruiting trail and be able to sell to a good point guard whether a recruit or another transfer the point guard position on a team desperate for more ball handling.

BTW you cannot compare what happened in the Ark - Iowa st game. As Ark went to 2 OT's with Purdue at high altitude. They were likely gassed in that game. I noticed ark wasn't packing it in on Iowa St because Iowa st had outside player's you have to respect.

...you never finished...and inside players that didn't warrant as much respect...

I don 't buy the connection by numbers stuff. I say we would have a good chance of beating them. They lost mega games this year.

meh don't count on him until his upperclass years.

Why? What's your basis for this comment? Yogi started from day 1. They are similar recruits.

Yogi and Eswards are two totally different players. For one, Yogi was a high rates player coming out of high school..in fact a 5 star I believe. Edwards is just now coming around as a mid-level 4 star. Yogi was a penetrator and facilitator while Edwards is a combo guard at best who is a better shooter than penetrator.

If Edwards can come in and provide 8 points and 4 assists a game, Purdue will be vastly improved in the point guard position...but it is more about how Edwards plays and not his stats. He needs to be able to break a defender down, get in the lane, and find open shooters/big men. From his scouting reports, that's not his game at this point in time.

Yogi was a 4 star. Correct?

No, 5 star. 19th in the nation by Rivals. We need to quit embarrassing ourselves. Some wanted to compare RJ with Yogi back in the day, now Carsen. Come on guys, Yogi was a great recruit and a great college basketball player. RJ was a higher priority recruit than Carsen, but no where near Yogi. Hopefully he turns out better than our last few freshmen PG's.

Niang is exactly the type of player at his position that Purdue couldn't handle. He probably would have drawn swanigan and absolutely torched him.

I doubt they would have put biggie on him...more likely edwards or vince...probably edwards...

Purdue may would have kept it close with Iowa State but the same old issues from this season would have probably given us all another gut wrenching "what could have been" loss.
