I have heard reference to...ways one can watch the game tonight without a BTNPlus subscription. Would anyone be so kind as to share a link or at a minimum some Google terms I could search on that may help a brother out?

Games like tonight make me wish we had a decent radio guy. Would rather follow the game on twitter than listen to Clisby though. The guy is old as dirt. He can't have too much longer in him.

I hate to hear you say that but everyone has their own opinion. I really like Cliz. When I was very young I wanted to be a sportscaster. We went to a lot of games and many times I would go over and talk to Larry before the game and he would let me put on a set of headphones and listen to him do the pregame show and interviews, etc. Unrelated but equally as cool, many years later he gave me a ride home one night from Chances Are, lol. I am sure that he would not at all remember or recognize me but I have no doubt that he would still take the time to talk to me about basketball or whatever if I ran into him again. On top of all that, I think he calls a great game and I find him very entertaining. I hope lasts forever. In my eyes he is an icon of Purdue Basketball. Long live Cliz!!!

I think Cliz is alright! He is definitely better to listen to when we are winning! He was announcing games when I was at Purdue and that was a very long time ago. He is sort of an icon. I hope he stays as long as he wants to!

John deCamp was the Purdue radio announcer when I was at Purdue. He was very good at describing the action. I could use his description and see the action in my head. We always knew who had the ball, where it was on the floor, the score and time on the clock. There were several others in Indiana that announced that way. Hilliard Gates and Bob Chase from Ft. Wayne were excellent at that. Tom Carnegy was good, but more of a showman. Cliz, Don Fisher and the national guys can not hold a candle to those three I mentioned. John deCamp was also excellent at giving credit where due, even the opposing team and individual players.

I've always liked Larry Clisby, and I will share a personal reason, which I've posted about a couple of times in the past.

While a Purdue student, a friend of mine and I were playing the old Purdue South Golf course (now Ackerman Hills I believe). It was a little slow and as we were finishing out on the 2nd green, a group was coming up on us.....we had decided to just let them play through.....wouldn't you know it, the twosome was Cliz and Kevin Stallings (assistant coach at the time). They decided they would just play up with us through 9. They could not have been nicer to us, and we really enjoyed finishing out those seven holes with them and getting a chance to get to know them on a more personal level. There really is something to the old adage about getting to know someone on the golf course and why deals are done during rounds of golf.....I digress.

As luck/fate would have it, on the first hole playing with them (par 4 No. 3), no joke, I holed my second shot for an eagle, and I think Cliz and Stallings were more excited than I was....when we finished off of 9, and thanked them for finishing, I kidded with Cliz about mentioning the eagle on his broadcast. So, I've always had a soft spot for Kevin Stallings and Cliz because of that experience. Funny how life works some way.

Now, I can understand those who don't care for him or his style. Is he the most exciting broadcaster, no? Does he have the usual "local guy....homerisms?" sure. He's a sports guy, but genuine and really down-to-earth....no not flashy or trendy, but the guy knows his craft and loves Purdue. For me, I say, thanks for the memories Cliz....keep doing what you do until you have a passion for something else. Boiler up.

Great story. I really enjoyed hearing that!
Didn't he used to be the sports guy on local channel 18 as well?

Feace, yes, he was the sports anchor, and I thought he still filled in part-time as "semi-retired." I've been away from the area for a while now.

I have been away for a while as well. Mom and dad still live up that way so I will ask them.
I know Rex Troutman was doing it for a while too
