Not really that deep, we have 5 or 6 players , the rest are questions or liabilities or players that will improve and help us long term , still TBD.Will be interested to see what’s going on as the season plays out. Hasn’t found his shot so far. I like his athleticism and overall ability that he showed last year. But that was then, this is now, have to do it. Team is too deep. If you have any glitch (health or performance) there is somebody ready to step in, as Furst is finding out.
I agree that we are only 8 deep talent wise: Ivey, Williams, Edey, Gillis, Sasha, Morton, IT, FurstNot really that deep, we have 5 or 6 players , the rest are questions or liabilities or players that will improve and help us long term , still TBD.
He has always looked ready to play until he gets on the court. So far anyway. He was dressed on the sidelines. He looked ready to play.
I think it's a fair thing to point out. Jordan is a perfect example of someone losing their father and it impacting them greatly and for a long time.I'm talking about the unexpected death of his dad.
That happened after his redshirt year, yes? So some of you might be thinking, "that was over 18 months ago and he was fine last season" - which could be true for some people...but you never know what the dude might be going through, processing a loss like that even close to 2 seasons later.
If this was the case, it would have effected him more last year no? He seems to be a decent role player, but burried in the rotation who hasnt improved much.I think it's a fair thing to point out. So now we're trying to tell people how to grieve? Give me a break. I have no idea just like everyone else on here, on whether that is the case for him or not.If this was the case, it would have effected him more last year no? Our group of guards are thin and pretty much the exact opposite of "deep". Could definitely use some help there. Hopefully newman steps it up. I still remember that awesome 30 pt game by him last year. He was scoring in ways no other guard on this roster besides ivey has the capability to do.Will be interested to see what’s going on as the season plays out. Hasn’t found his shot so far. Regarding only ivey being more athletic that may be true. Which I also think is one of our biggest flaws besides guard play. We overall just aren't a very athletic team. Always seems to be the case with how painter recruits. For you old guys like me, Newman reminds me a bit of Drake Morris. I am not at practice and I have no idea if or what the issues might be. I do think he is very talented and could be a huge asset as a player. Athletically, I think only Ivey surpasses him on the team.

Well, why wouldn't we trust him? He knows this team better than any of us on here. This would be going against what Painter said himself as being the deepest team he has coached. What? I thought we were always told to trust Painter?

Oh no! Shooting 3's is the whole game these days! Pretty soon a non 3 shot will only count for 1. Or so it seems.I recall that game vs Minny. Newman's point total included several successful drives and finishes at the rim. He was showing that before Ivey took over. I think he should go back to that and if nothing else get to the line where he was making over 80%. Shooting 3's can wait.
What are you talking about. Im not telling people how they can grieve. Newman's dad died prior to the 2020 2021 season if I recall. Maybe it has effected his game, I don't know, only he knows. I'm saying I dont think it has however in 2022 because, it didn't seem to effect him in 2021 when he was playing better and much closer to his death. You are welcome to your own opinion, dont drag me through the mud. I'm not making inflammatory statements here.So now we're trying to tell people how to grieve? Give me a break. My mistake then. That would just go against the poster that said we are only 5 to 6 deep. I was answering that.
Same situation with a child, a mother, and a grandmother, in a three year stretch. Never underestimate what that does to a person.I lost my father unexpectedly when he was 54. It took me years to “recover”. Not that one ever truly recovers but with time the pain lessens and blurs. At first I was in shock so the grieving did not immediately begin. Perhaps that is what happened with Newman.
He could have thrown himself into last season to try and distract himself from the loss of his dad. But when he started struggling this season, one of the most influential people in his life isn't there to give him advice...What are you talking about. Im not telling people how they can grieve.
