I thought Vitale was dead? he never was any good. Can't wait to be done with ESPN.
That was embarrassing - I know he’s old and was sick - but the poor guy was slobbering all over IU the whole game - how many times did he say Hoosier Hysteria? There is your example of someone who still thinks IU is relevant
Vitale was really good when he first began; a lot of enthusiasm for all the right things -- he would actually analyze the game objectively, knew so much about the players and coaches, discussed tactics and strategy, all the while creating excitement about college basketball.
But the fame and fortune turned his head somewhere in the 90s. He rapidly became a caricature/Duke fluffer, and increasingly lost focus of the games in front of him in order to discuss his interactions with celebrities and athletes, obviously relied on production staff to do the research he once did himself, etc.
He is human, it happens. Vitale couldn't believe his luck after being dumped by the Pistons and wanted to let everyone know about it -- he wasn't trying to be a braggart but he let it overshadow his broadcasting.
He has unquestionably done a lot and raised a ton of money for cancer research and in that regard uses his platform exceedingly well. But he long ago ceased being an insightful analyst.

I was actually more offended that ESPN's game day crew was at NC vs Duke. Two unranked teams in a game that has no relevance nationally.
It was like they were treating a game between the unanimous #1 team in the country and their ranked in state rival as an undercard for the Duke vs UNC game which was shown during prime time.
