It's becoming fairly routine : when Vince plays well, we play well. Aside from Swanigan, Vince is our most important player IMO.

Absolutely agree... when he's hitting shots & crashing the offensive glass Purdue can be scary good. Just adds another demention to our team. (X Factor)

Vince, Carsen, Caleb, Isaac: I don't know if a team can have four "most" valuable players but if they could, those four would be it.

Are you talking about the game or the season? If it's the season the MVP is unquestionably Swanigan. That's probably true for last night as well, although a case could be made for Vince. Carsen Edwards did not play well last night, on the other hand.

However, you could definitely consider Vince, as the OP alluded. In every game that Purdue has lost (with the possible exception of the Iowa game), Vince didn't play particularly well.

No, Dakich was calling them Purdue's "glue-guys", which is different from MVP's, IMO.
Ahh...think you're right on that one. Regardless, DD is a big PJ fan. I'm glad the few folks that were dogging PJ earlier in his career are not doing that anymore. Glue or not, PJ is playing his role pretty well this year outside a couple of mismatches when he is defending.

Yes, I've said this many times before but I believe P.J.'s been able to get the absolute maximum (or very close to it) results out of his ability level (i.e. last season and this season so far). He really works on his game diligently and it shows when he plays (particularly on offense). The same goes for Mathias, but it could argued that it's even more impressive for Thompson, given what scouts and what-not thought of him as a recruit out of high school.

PJ has improved every year. On the offensive side, he's a pretty good point guard. But on defense, he has physical limitations including his lateral and overall quickness. Do you think in the off season if he pulled a "Biggie" and tried to tone up his body, or at least lose some weight, that would help him in that regard?

I don't know how much better he can get on D. I don't think he can magically become quicker but I do know that the coaches can make players like him less of a liability against quicker guards if they mix in some different defenses during games to keep the opposition thinking and catch them off guard from time-to-time.

The frustration with all our guards, other than CE, is that they all do the same thing well, which is fees the post and knock down open 3's.
now, I'm not complaining, because those are important skills, but we don't have (or we don't use) our guards in the high screen which allows them to either attack the lane or shoot the jumper. Other teams have killed us with this but we don't have the personnel to attack the rim consistently which adds another dimension to the offense.

Boy has purdue came a long way in just three years without a boatload of 5 stars

I would guess the back feels better. He looked so much quicker and confident than he did the last few games.

His first shot was more upright and short and thought it might be sore, but as you said he was great after that

At the same time, when PJ, Dakota, Vince, and Biggie are all hitting almost half of their three point shots, it has to be frustrating for those other teams.

I tend to agree with most of the posts; I do think that if Vince brings it during the NCAA tournament we could make a deep run. A favorable bracket and who knows!

I agree on potential for a run but that is predicated on being able to maintain that high level of focus for more than two games. Until that happens it will be a disappointing ending.

Well, maybe we were wrong.

He had 8 rebounds and 3 assists but went 0-7 from the field, didn't score a point today, yet Purdue still won.

Question re Vince.

Does he look like he has lost weight this year? He seems extremely skinny...moreso than years past. I feel he could use about 15lbs of muscle added....

He did. I stood right next to him for a photo in August at the alumni game/team scrimmage at Lafayette Jefferson HS. He was really skinny then. I think he lost the weight to try and improve his lateral quickness.

You have got to be kidding.DM is our second best player and it's not even close!!
I agree. Both Carsen and Dakota had 12 points today, but Carsen was 4-12 and Dakota 4-6 and Dakota had 6 assists, CE none. Dakota's defense is better too. CE may have a higher ceiling, but Dakota is our 2nd best overall player now.

1. Swanigan

2. Haas

3-8. Everyone else (however you want to arrange them). Carsen is definitely the most talented guard of the group.

Totally depends on the game. I think Dakota is more consistent, but has a ceiling. Haas can be unstoppable, but has match ups that are tough for him to break out (like today).
