I like his professional approach and ability to articulate the basic philosophy of his program, his feel for the Midwest, and his perception of, and vision for, Purdue football.
Perhaps it's a small thing, but I appreciate his repeated references to the players as "student-athletes". His crack about hoping none of the guys in attendance were missing a final to be there was well-placed.
Odom seems to have internalized the ups and down of his career in a positive manner, and I am confident that that will pay dividends for us.
He also went out of his way at the end of the press conference to acknowledge his respect for the role of the media and his desire for a mutually beneficial relationship. I am sure there will be times when he would rather not talk to the media, but I don't think he will look someone just stole his bike as his predecessor often did.
He isn't going to set the world on fire with provocative rhetoric, but he is damn sure a breath of fresh air.
