Very happy to hear about Horvath

No one was disparaging the kid. Spring game stats are worthless.

never said or wrote the word "disparage".

They were talking down his performance.
That is pretty much what the word disparage means: to talk down the importance or value of something, like his spring game statistics.

Anyway, I don't see Horvath having much of a ball carrier role in this offense. If he has a role, it would be more of a blocker and/or squirting out for a dump off or release valve type of receiver.

Why don't you think so? 4.4 speed with great size.

No, it was exactly as I wrote: there were some posters on here (myself included) who noted his fine performance during the spring game, thinking he could contribute in the future.

Others were talking down his performance. (He's a walk-on, it's just a spring game, etc.)

I don't know what his future looks like, but, just like after the spring game, I like what he could bring to this offense.

4.4 speed... Are you joking?

According to his Hudl page, that's what it states. It isn't a confirmed time from a camp so I would likely add a tenth to it for good measure...but still anything below 4.5 at that size is really impressive. As a comparison, Bentley ran a 4.7 at 246 pounds. Horvath is listed right now at 230 right now. If he is athletic enough, you find positions for him to play on the field....and if that means getting him some work at the Leo position for specific situations, then you do that.

For one, we've already got Knox and Jones splitting carries along with Rondale. Very few carries left for Horvath, especially with Brohm wanting to throw the ball 40 times a game.

Two, he catches the ball really well. He really fits the role of H Back. Maybe if his workload increases he can carve out a role like a Superback at Northwestern.

I don't know how fast he is but as I mention during last week's game , after he caught that dump off pass turned up field it was evident that he's not a slow lumbering type of back.

I never said he was slow. I said I didn't see him as a ball carrier in this offense.

I love me some Horvath and have talked him up since he came in as a preferred walk-on but he never has run a 4.4 forty. If he had he would have a D1 scholarship offer. Mike "A Train" Allstott never in his career tested better than 4.6

The competition in high school wasn't the greatest, which could have had an effect on his recruitment but no way he should have been a walk on. 4.4 or not he is not slow, and not your typical slower moving stocky fullback. Horvath will be a huge contributor, maybe not this year, but surely in the next 3 year

I liken him to Sparks. He's not currently a projected starter. But he has proved his worth and is EARNING additional playing time. A feel good story.

And what's been heard about him?
"Alexander Horvath's role expanding in Purdue offense". They are looking at several different options to play him. Like the 22 yard pass, and run, out of the backfield, in the first quarter of the Nebraska game.

I agree that Northern Indiana HS Conference is not what it used to be-competition wise- but Mishawaka Marian is usually a quality HS football program in St Joe County. One of the best LB's PU ever had was Kevin Motts 75'-78'. DJ Fitzgerald played in NFL and went to ND. Demetrious Jackson from Marian played BB at ND
Barron is also from Marian

Second to Moore in pro material at this stage.

Is he great because he's producing? Or is he great because our other backup runners are either horrible or injured? Didn't we sign a freshman RB?

Worship is injured. Fuller is out of favor/injured. Anderson is young and probably not ready

Also, he’s a fullback and the only other one was worship
