Watching the NIT championship game between Valpo and GW. Drew is a 3 time COY in Horizon League. 30-6 this year. Not trying at all to start a CMP firing thread, was just wondering why his name has never come up on this board that I am aware of as a possible Purdue coach?

His name has never come up because Painter pretty much has the job on lock for however long he wants it, whether we like it or not.

I've heard Drew's name come up for a number of other coaching vacancies though. I know Saint Louis was considering him before they hired Travis Ford.

His name has come up on here before. There were some threads two years ago and probably late 2014 as well about possibilities and preferences for the next head coach.

Ga Tech may have an interest. Drew and Archie Miller.

I would love for Purdue to go after either one in a year of two. Have a feeling both will be elsewhere by then.

I think it will be Vandy. Seems like a good fit for Bryce Drew. I doubt he will hang around up here much longer, or be any "hotter" than he is right now.

Well, Valpo was on the short end of tonight's NIT title game vs. George Washington. Their starting 4 man, Alec Peters is very good. He will be a senior next season.

I hear that Bryce really loves his home town. There are jobs he would leave Valpo for but not too many. Who knows, maybe his love for Valpo is about to be tested with big bucks.

So wait, according to forum experts none of those COY awards matter. It only matters what he did this year so you want to replace a coach that had a top 10 team in the NCAA tourney with a coach that couldn't even win the NIT? And you wonder why you wannabe coaches are viewed the way you are.

Pie, while I agree with you, pointing out the emporor has no clothes is never a popular position to take. It also works better when he is parading by.

For the most part, the armchair coaches have folded their chairs and have left the forum. No need to beat this dead horse now. You won't see most of them here until we lose a recruiting battle this fall, or a game next season.

Their expectation is that we get every kid we offer and that we win every game we play. Any variance from that position is the coach's fault (it is of course), and he should be fired. Of course, we all know those expectations are out of alignment with reality, and expressed this way, none of the armchair guys will own up to holding these expectations, but they do, none-the-less.

Like I say, no sense beating a dead horse here. Remember, we are all Purdue Boilermaker fans, and we all want the same thing. The armchair coaches are not the enemy.

I think if Painter moves along, and with a new administration it is possible, I could see Drew as a potential candidate. I can't see Bryce pulling a Scott and going to a Baylor. I think Bryce likes Indiana/Midwest. I am a bit surprised he has had the success he has. I met him a few times when he was with the Bulls. Seemed kind of like a shy guy, I didn't get the "used car salesman" vibe off of him that is so common in D1 Bball coaches. He handles his business well.

Two thoughts here.

Drew is ok but he has no major conference experience and I doubt he'd be an upgrade.

I think Bryce Drew has a good gig right now and if I were him, I wouldn't jump at the first thing that comes my way. He could have that Valpo job for 40 years if he wants it and probably win quite a bit along the way. It would have to be a perfect situation to get me to leave and not just any major conference job that showed interest in me.

Sounds like Painter when he left So Ill.

Only from the aspect they came from a small conference background. Some very big differences.

What are the big differences in Bryce Drew hypothetically being the next Purdue head coach at this point in time compared to Matt Painter following Gene Keady, other than Painter understanding Keady's preferred offensive and defensive schemes?

Let me be clear. I'm not saying that Bryce should definitely be the next head coach at Purdue. I'm saying he might be a good choice and I'm asking the question above because I don't see a large number of differences between the two of them.

List the large differences between Matt Painter after one yr with So Ill and Bryce Drew after 3-4 yrs at Valpo. This should be good.

GW's coach has done a great job there too.

That and we have a coach currently that isn't leaving anytime soon.

That doesn't really answer the questions to your "Some very big differences." comment. None of us know how long CMP will be HC at Purdue, but it's still possible that he'll move on this offseason or after the next season, which would be fairly soon.

My aunt and uncle were neighbors with the drews in valpo and they knew them a little. Many years ago I went up to their house to ask for his autograph as a young kid. Don't remember too much about what was said since I was so young, but I did get the autograph and he seemed like a nice guy.

Yea I do. If you are too dumb to read the thread to see it then it's not my problem.

No need for ad hominem attacks like that, man. It's a fair question. And from what I read in this thread, the major differences between Painter (after his one year at So. Illinois) and Drew haven't really been discussed other than the fact that Painter had a lot of experience as an assistant at a major program.

Regardless, either you can add to the discussion to a very fair question posed by someone, or you can remain quiet. Demeaning others isn't an option.

Lol. You don't determine what my options are and if you can read and don't know it by now then you are as bad as he is.

Thanks for listing all the big differences between Drew and Painter. I see one comment that Drew has no major conference experience. But then you contradict yourself by stating that they both have the same small conference start for a head coach. So that leaves zero difference.

Still waiting for the "big list of differences". If a big list is too difficult, how about 3-5 differences.

As I've said repeatedly, read the thread. If you can do that, they are already here. The biggest problem is that you have an expectation of what you think I'm arguing and you're way off base so you are overlooking the obvious.
