makes recruiting a bit iffy ...Put me in the camp of not wanting to hire a 65 year old coach when the time comes for Purdue to make a hire.
I find it hard to believe he's only 65. Seems like he's been wandering in the desert for a long time since leaving UK.Put me in the camp of not wanting to hire a 65 year old coach when the time comes for Purdue to make a hire.
If you remember correctly I said I wish Purdue would have hired him when younger. I still think he's a great coach & if they have the talent, he will do well. At his age now, he needs a program that has the talent in place. I think it's a great hire for Memphis because it will allow them a transition period in looking for the right long term coach. It's also a great move for Tubby moving to a basketball school. I think he will do a great job & take his 6th school to an NCAA tourney. We'll get to see who was right in the thread that debated his ability to be great again ....
I honestly didn't remember who said what in that thread. I just knew there were some who debated him as a good hire or not.If you remember correctly I said I wish Purdue would have hired him when younger. And what's following is our boy, Chris Beard, the LR coach - who had been hired at UNLV, then jumped ship less than a month later to go take the Texas Tech job. Kinda shady...
He has 2 daughters that live close to TT. Can't blame him for the move. Much the same situation for Stallings. His son is a catcher in the Pirates organization and is expected to be up in the next year or 2..His rationale for jumping ship at UNLV was 'when momma calls, you answer the phone.' I think getting his start at Texas Tech and the job opening up was a bit too attractive for him. Being that he is from the Bobby Knight coaching tree and looks up to the man incredibly, I am not surprised.
