I made the comment earlier to a family member that there is no way another team in the country has been called for more travels the past 3 years. Is this stat trackable? I'm somewhat shocked how often our big men have traveled this year and last with minimal contact.

I think you need to watch more basketball.

I watch a good amount of basketball and our turnover amount is not good as far as ranking wise. I'd say a substantial portion of our turnovers are also big men traveling.

Swanigan still gets into turnover issues, but his tend to be a wide variety. I don't think as many teams put the ball in the hands of more "traditional" big guys as much as we do. Obviously big guys tend to travel more than guards.

We feed the post, a lot. I think more than any other team. We also get a lot of 1 on 1s where our big man travels in an unforced situation. I'm just surprised by how often it occurs with our focus being on feeding the post. It's one thing to travel in the NBA which is all over the place with its calls but college is kind of consistent in the way they call it.

Big guys tend to GET CALLED for traveling more than guards. There is a double standard on taking 3-4 steps on a dribble drive vs. moving pivot foot.

And Haas got away with one last night too.

this is really the crux of it. They flat out call the game differently for the guards when it comes to foot work.

In the games I've seen this year, inside and outside of the conference, it appears they're generally calling more travels.....but some calls are not travels, and they're still missing a fair amount of "un-called" travels.

It seems to me if something looks awkward, they just call a travel regardless of whether it is or isn't. So for guys that aren't real fluid, like Haas, he gets hammered by that versus a smooth guard who still takes 4 steps with "jump-stops" or dragging pivot "euro-steps" that aren't even close to being legal.

Don't forget "Crab Dribbles".

They showed an Iowa State made 3 last night going into a commercial. They talked about how skilled he was to get it off and I am sitting thinking about how obvious it was that he traveled. His left foot was the pivot foot, he stepped right and then stepped left with both feet without dribbling and I was thinking how open I could be if I didn't have to dribble.

Anyone watching Michigan State/Miami? Just called a travel in transition on Miami.....anticipation call.....kept his pivot foot and stepped back, IMO.

And Haas covers so much ground when he makes a move, it MUST be traveling.

Well, Biggie got a travel in the vermont game where he just went to a jump stop between two people and was called...wrongly I believe for a travel

An introduction to young players...here is a ball and just drive and go where you want to go without dribbling. Now, understand that if you make the ball an extension of your hand how much better you can be just by improving your ball handling. Okay, 30 seconds on the whistle... :)
