A plane returning from the NCAA Championship game crashed in heavy fog last night. Two ISU athletic officials including an assistant Bball coach were on board. All 7 on the plane were killed.

Thoughts and prayers to all families touched by this awful accident.

sad

Time and time again, bad weather conditions and flying have been a recipe for disaster, but these things seem to happen at a higher rate with smaller model planes.

I vaguely remember Torrey Ward when he played for UAB. I think he was on that UAB team that played Purdue in the Great Alaska Shootout in 1997.

It is a tragic loss.

Having said that, you can drive from Bloomington IL to Indy in about the time it takes to fly a private jet, and for a lot less money. Were these people flying to the NCAA tourney on ISU's dime?

Very sad story. Prayers to the families, friends, and players. Illinois State is a good university, and very closely located to Purdue.

I understand that it a group of local business men that invited them along in a Cessna 414.

It's a good 3 plus hours by car and add in the fog on the ground too then they said it's only an hour flight from Indy to Bloomington Illinois

To bring some perspective to our disappointment that a teenager decided to play for another school, I just saw a link to a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Coach Ward's fiancée...and their soon-to-be baby. Thought it couldn't hurt to post - give if you're able to. Thanks, all.
