Hate to bring this up here, but I think we all were a little relieved when IU got in. Most of us want Tom Crean at Indiana for a long time, and making the tournament should of helped his cause. On his radio show he seemed to be in a strange mood. He was very dismissive of most the callers comments. He stated to one caller his wife is not a fan of basketball. He said whether its watching him coach, or their son play it's just full of anguish. Then apparently he said a good bye sort of to all the fans. Anyways, this was the first time I've caught his radio show, so I have nothing to compare it with. The tone of the show I found odd. Unfortunately, I don't believe Tom Crean is coming back. Which kinda sucks...

Who cares.... The suck and will always suck. Brad Stevens is not coming through that door. Let them hire Alford or Dackich. Those are the only two that want that job.

I've said all along that he's leaving. His wife is unhappy and considers Bloomington the pinnacle of hicksville and wants out.

I will say this, IU deserves what ever pile of festering dog crap of a coach they get. Alford ain't leaving UCLA.

There is also speculation that Don Fisher is retiring as the Voice of Indiana University.

Unless they re-hire sampson, I always felt that crean was the perfect coach for that fanbase. I still remember them chanting sampson's name after it was found he was a cheater. At least with crean they were able to cut down some nets. And rush the floor after a victory.

she's probably embarassed when she "watches him coach".

he really thinks people go to the iu games to watch him. sad sad man. does anyone really watch a coach coach? i mean you are aware of his timeouts and game plan and plays he may draw up at times but i never really watch him unless something unusual is going on. such as crean's antics

Alford could be leaving UCLA, but not because he wants to. He got gifted a bid to the tourney, I can't imagine UCLA is happy with his "success" there. Alford doesn't deserve to have any job, a middle school job is too good for him, since covering for a rapist he should have had a lifetime ban.

This. And quite frankly even if Stevens did come to IU, the only thing it would do is cause more IU trolls to come here and post crap.

Personally I think that IU will try and pull what UM did in football and bring Alford in.

They've hired seven coaches since WWII (5 full time and 2 interim).

Knight was a great hire.

Their next best hire was Mike Davis (and third best is a huge drop off from there). If they dump Crean with out a Brad Stevens in place, the odds of hiring another Bob Knight is far less than hiring another Lou Watson, imo.

Alfrod is not at all disliked at UCLA except by Walton, he sent three players to the NBA in his first year, great recruits coming in, and with the way they closed the season UCLA deserves to be in the dance much more than a team that lost 9 of their last 13, and is loaded with druggies and drunk drivers.

Alford's buyout is pretty steep so unless UCLA is willing to waive that he's not an option. Plus Tanya once said the last place she wanted her husband was at IU where the fans were not that kind when he was a player. Now she may change her mind or has, but he only used IU to leverage a larger contract from Iowa when Davis was let go. IU fans only think their job is so desireable.

LA is a nice place to be if you make enough money, and Alford does. He's not going anywhere I don't think. Why go back to snow and Hickville? To admire the banners of the past? I'm thinking nah.

As a long-time Indiana season ticket holder, considering the names being thrown around in this thread, my choices in order would be:

1. Brad Stevens
2. Tom Crean
3. Pile of festering dog crap of a coach (I concede I had not been considering this one until TD2 mentioned it above)
4. Steve Alford

How do you feel about wasting that season ticket money every year? First, BS is in Boston for a long time, and will not give it up to come to IU. You deserve Tom Crean, and noticed that you didn't include Mike Davis in that equation...is there a reason for not including a guy who's done as much at IU as Crean has? You had that pile of festering dog crap in Kelvin Sampson, who was the best coach since Knight. Alford will not darken IU's doors....he was burned by Myles Brand, was lied to, and treated very badly during that time. So....you may very well be stuck with Two Tone Tommy unless the Two Tone mommy makes him leave Trailer Town.

As a Purdue fan, I would be more worried if they hired Mike Davis than Steve Alford. I never thought Davis was a bad coach, and he could recruit. Alford is a bad coach.

I'm sure that Valpo and N. Iowa's coaches will be hot commodities after the season ends.

Like you, I have no idea what Tanya Alford would like in terms of where her husband coaches, but #12 was canonized in Btown by the time he was a Sophomore.

When Steve was coaching Iowa, she said that Steve might be going to IU but she and the kids weren't. Alford wasn't canonized until his senior year. He used to go to New Castle and literally cry about the way Knight and the fans treated him. Did you ever read Feinstein's book or do you just make up this shit as you go? Knight said an 8th grader was better than Steve and gap toothed fans like your Uncle Crapsense actually believed it.

Apparently there is lots of noise in the college athletics world that Crean is heading to Alabama. Will be interesting to see what happens. I like him at IU.

I assure you #12 was canonized in Btown well before his Sr year. Steve was a rockstar on campus and the model of what every parent wanted for their daughter to marry.

Your hatred is sad...

Yogi is a "whiny Bitch". Lol at that gem Heller.

I have always been under the impression Alford was a rock star on the IU campus as a player.I think it was 1985 when an Indy tv reporter asked some girls on the Bloomington campus about the upcoming Old Oaken bucket game and they looked puzzled and shrugged. But they drooled and said they couldn't wait for IU basketball so they could watch Alford. As far as him coming back there to coach.who knows?I believe that he would be under incredible pressure to win a national title in about three years,or people down there would want to hang him.

Wow. More evidence supporting what people say about the folks in bloomington. And no one can claim it was made up by people here.

Any coach at lU who doesn't hang

a banner every 5/6 years will be run out of town.
Some of our "fans" are delusional.

New Palestine

New Pal HS.... great sounding fight song. Heard it a bunch of times the Friday after Thanksgiving.

It's a drag. We only went to two games this year, so unless I sell them, I am pretty much throwing $86 in the trash can every time they have a home game. Fortunately, there are people out there crazier than me who will buy the big game tickets at four times face value. I don't make it all back, but I do alright. I can't stop buying them though or I will drop off of the priority point list. I was on the wait list for 11 years before I got them.

First, BS is in Boston for a long time, and will not give it up to come to IU.
Agreed. Probably wishful thinking.

I always liked MD. He seemed like a nice guy and the 2002 championship run was fun. I'm not a huge Crean fan, but there have been some good times. We were at the Wat-shot game which was pretty fun, and being ranked #1 all of the next season was fun, even though it didn't end well.

You had that pile of festering dog crap in Kelvin Sampson, who was the best coach since Knight.
Agreed. He was a really good in-game coach. I think he could have succeeded without all of the other stuff. Good riddance, nonetheless.

Alford will not darken IU's doors....he was burned by Myles Brand, was lied to, and treated very badly during that time.
Alford not darkening our doors is fine with me. I was a huge fan of him and RMK and was crushed when RMK got fired. However, I have since decided, for various reasons, that RMK is a huge jerk and I think I have dislike by association with regard to Alford. I couldn't care less if either of them ever visit IU again. For the record, I didn't like Myles Brand either.

So....you may very well be stuck with Two Tone Tommy unless the Two Tone mommy makes him leave Trailer Town.
I can live with that for now. He seems somewhat weird and quirky, but I like to think he is genuinely an alright guy.

Think So

My kids are New Prairie alums / current IU students. I was watching my daughter sing every time it played. Think she lost her voice by the time it was over.

You are half the man

of your uncle.
Just say'n.
