Should scholarships and NIL be tied to Bowl games? If a player opts out of their bowl game, what reprecussions should there be, if any?

Lots of butt hurt around these opt outs. These kids figure to help the Purdue image a lot more as highly drafted and successful pros than they do a meaningless exhibition game.

I have no problem with them taking the game off and leaving early. Especially guys like AOC, Durham and Trice who are 4+ year boilers who we know where their allegiances truly lie.

The qb who left high school to play at OSU and then transferred to Texas had a nil deal based on x amounts of starts. That was one of the reasons he left OSU. That is sort of a play for pay deal. He didn’t get his pay unless he played.

Tiller said number one benefit of making a bowl game was 5 extra weeks of practice - for the younger players who were still developing. During the season, starters get the reps and coaches’ attention. Tiller gave those guys a couple weeks off between the Bucket Game and the bowl game. Used these five weeks to give reps to, coach up and develop younger, less experienced players. Think of it as an extra spring practice season. It’s like compounding interest for good programs. Compare a program that goes bowling every year to a program that does not. Pays dividends over the long run.

As @BoilerFamily said, bowls are for the underclassmen and their development.

Personally, I'm pretty excited for Austin Burton to get a Citrus Bowl start as a reward for staying on 3 years as a backup. I think it's great Alaimo and Allen are getting 1-on-1 tutelage with Brees and hope to see them playing in the games.

It's more frustrating for me that our coaching staff is in Flux. It would be better if Walter's and Co were already up and running and coaching in the game, but that isn't realistic. Oh well.

I think most people are concerned with getting blown out and embarrassed rather than being upset that players opted out.
