- Right now the league is pretty much separated into pretty distinct upper and lower halves. Just based on injuries and who's returning and who's not, Illinois may have a chance to move up while Michigan has a good chance to move down.
- How much money could you have won betting that Purdue would be in 2nd place at the half way mark? (Tie breaker would actually have Purdue in 4th if the season ended today.)
- Three teams returned this year largely intact from last year, losing only a single player each out of their normal rotation. Wisconsin, who even with Jackson going down hasn't missed a beat; Iowa, who lost Marble and has been up and down with road wins against UNC and OSU but is sitting on a 3 game losing streak right now, and; Nebraska who, with a win against MSU outstanding, has been terrible lately, averaging just 43 points their last two games and 57.1 points in league play, last in the B10
- Speaking of Nebraska, they are sitting at 4-5 right now but still have on their schedule: Wisconsin, Maryland (twice), Iowa, @Purdue, @OSU, @Illinois and @PSU. They host Northwestern next and other than that game (which I give NW a good chance), they may not be favored again this year.
- Minnesota was thought by a number of experts to perhaps be the 3rd best team in the B10 entering league play. So far, their very experienced club behind Wunderkind coach Pitino has 3 conference wins, all at home, against Rutgers, Illinois and the previously mentioned Nebraska.
- Purdue, after playing IU who had played 3 games in 7 days, faced Northwestern with a week to prepare; will face OSU also with a week to prepare and will follow that game up with Minnesota, also having had a week to prepare. Fortunately for Purdue, teams can prepare all they want, but it's difficult to simulate Hammons/Hass in practice.
- If you want to compare performances, Purdue's 8 point margin of victory against Northwestern was larger than NW had given up to any team this year outside of Wisconsin and was larger than their last three games combined.
- In that same vein, outside of the game against Rutgers when they were missing Kaminsky the entire game and Jackson for a good part of the 2nd half, no team has been closer to Wisky than Purdue and their 7 point loss at home. Only Michigan, a 5 point loser in OT, has been closer and that was a Wisky road game.
