Thoughts About Jeff Brohm

Terrible play call at the end of the game...even the Fox announcers said you never the ball behind the line of scrimmage on 4th down that's what Haze did last year. The only thing that kept this game close was Louisville turnovers. Also this is not a two QB offense. No running game at all. Check the stats and you will see why Purdue lost. Purdue faithful wanted a gunslinger offense but, you need good QBs to do it. I seen no change from this year to last year. Still look like a MAC type team. Purdue will struggle to win one game this year. Friday nights game should be a good one. I'll take the Bobcats by 7. Go Cats.

No change? You're an idiot if you believe that. We lost by 7 to a ranked team with the reigning Heisman winner. You're clueless.

Dumbest post of the year?

He likely thought it was going to be a jailhouse blitz. When that happens, a screen is usually very affective. Instead, they had two defenders waiting at the line and showing discipline. It was a gamble and he was wrong. I am not mad at the call though.

Our QBs threw 4 TDs and the defense forced 3 Louisville turnovers. You're just complaining, not critiquing. You should change your name to clowncar.

1) as most have echoed, night and day difference from previous regime. Just feels different.

2) I thought our o looked a lot better with blough in. Not sure why sindelar went back in in 4th. Was it injury related? Blough just has to let the game come to him, as painter would say.

3) Purdue played far from a perfect game, still kept it close against what I think is a good team. This is encouraging. I think a lot of the mistakes are easy fixes with a good coach in charge.

4) is Louisville good? Im anxious to see what they do from here on out

Blough played well until he tried to make something happen that wasn't there. I am sure he knows it. Good to have another option at QB when Blough isn't playing well or gets hurt.
Definitely. I love blough most of the time. He makes good reads and throws on time, most of the time. He can run effectively when necessary.
But, when gets pressure that makes him search for options he looks panicky (is that a word?). That's when he makes throws with his feet out of position or forces it into a double team.
Sindelahr is probably not as proficient at multiple reads but he doesn't seam to panic. He has a rail gun arm in comparison. Unless Blough cleans up the big mistakes, he is going to lose his job.
All that said. Last night was just too much fun to watch!

Purdue is still looking for quarterback stability, but I think a healthy, calm Blough will take care of that. Purdue had to take some chances to beat Louisville, and both quarterbacks made mistakes.

I was encouraged by DJ Knox in spot duty. Between him, Jones, and Worship I think Purdue has the backs for a serviceable running game. We need the guys up front to jell.

I really liked how the defense hung in there and forced turnovers early while Sindelar was still trying to find a rhythm. This game could've gotten ugly early, but Bentley's forced fumbles gave Purdue a chance. Purdue isn't going to be as good as most of our opponents, so forcing turnovers will be important to keeping Purdue in games.

Kick returners need to make better decisions. Mistakes in the kicking game always seems to happen in season openers, not just at Purdue.

Tough game coming up Friday. Time for Brohm to pick up his first win @Purdue!

If Phillips had not let deep ball fall thru his hands, Bloughs stats would have been really impressive and entire complexion of game changed as we would have been up 2 scores. Also, although I like Brohm using flea flicker on occasion, I generally think its better to try it from our own territory rather inside the opponents 40. Bloughs first interception is on him but Brohm carries some fault on second INT for calling it in that situation.

But as they say ....if Its and Buts were candy and nuts.......

i failed to read all the preview articles, but wondered about...

RB:
did we expect the carry load to be this on game 1? (not sure on overall play participation though)
8 - fuller
4 - knox
1 - l-johnson
1 - worship
0 - jones

jones: thought last year's fumbles were due to injury side effects, but still an issue apparently.

WR:
holmes: was he on field for many plays? only see credit for 1 target. hopefully more will develop in the future.

I think Louisville has the horses to contend for the ACC Championship. They will be right there with Clemson and FSU.

Brohm will not tolerate Blough's poor decision making and off balance throws, like he often had last year, and twice last night.

Similarly you could say Louisville won because of Blough's two turnovers including a pick six. Both were terrible decisions.

The offense is completely different from last year. The variety of plays run were 2 to 3 times what were run during a Hazel game. The plays are quicker so the QBs should be able to make plays before pressure forces them into mistakes.

So, you ignore the Purdue turnovers in your detailed analysis? Louisville had a pick 6, recovered a fumble on Purdue's 20 yard line, and picked off a pass in the Louisville end zone, but somehow only the Louisville TOs mattered....wow. "PU will struggle to win one game"...I realize you are just trolling but it is laughable for you to say that unless you really don't know anything about football....which may be the case.

Look at us finding fault with individual, and I would argue, smaller issues. How great is it to be in a position to pick on details. We have been a complete and utter mess for years. This program still has a long way to go, but clearly we are now on track.

You have to be trolling for a response. 5-7 take it to the bank.

This is what IU sounds like when they watch Brohm's first game and realize all the money they spent on football is not going to make any difference in the end.

Night and Day difference! Brohm talking to his quarterback as he left the field after a 4th down - I don't hardly ever remember Hazell talking to his players! Wish we could have avoided the mistakes and gotten the victory, but the game was fun to watch for like the first time in years! I hope our competitiveness and play is a good sign of things to come. I think Purdue has a winner in Brohm and I think we are headed in the right direction for the first time since Tiller retired. Never would have dreamed we would have a lead over Louisville in the 4th quarter. Excited to see how we play in our next game. Boiler Up!

Think team definitely looks better than the previous years. One thing that I don't like is switching quarterbacks pick one and stick with them. Then a question I have what happened to Jones the running back out of Columbus so far I've only watched the first half and I haven't seen him but once on special teams. Haven't really been watching Purdue football the last couple years but I do read the paper and check up on them and I've always read his name in the paper like he was one of our better running backs. Did he fall off in the back of the death chart?

curious as to why markell jones isnt in the mix for carries. is he in the dog house?

The defense definitely needs a lot of work. If it wasn't for the two fumbles inside the 5-yard line and the time running out at the end of the half they should have 3 more touchdowns. Defense did a good job inside the five but before that wasn't very good.

On the return he fumbled, he injured his knee. Haven't heard if it's serious or not.

The keys to throwing long at the end of the game are having enough speed to get down the field (we did not), and the QB having enough time to wait to throw. Don't think UL's d-line would let that happen. All we could do is run short quick plays and hope one would break through. It was the best strategy available. ClubCar's comment displays much ignorance of the game and situation.

Brohm mentioned M . Jones was in the game plan mix, but got injured on the kickoff return. Not sure how serious it is.

all i remember is the haze slapping low fives as they ran off the field after a mistake.

why add this last sentence?

I've never been a Purdue fan. I'm now a Purdue fan. I thought you guys were pretty impressive, and Coach Brohm is just getting started.

You'll play in a bowl next year... If not this year.
I think it almost goes without saying - Coach Brohm and his staff are a very welcome addition to Purdue. He's a winner and Purdue football is going to ascend quickly with him. Personally, I see Purdue making a bowl this year, especially as they get the offense sorted out better. We need faster WRs with better hands (supposedly there are some on the roster). Also, need to sort out the QB situation.

Lamar Jackson is a sensational player and you guys are stacked with athletes. That WR #87 is going to be a good one. I see Louisville right up there with Clemson and FSU at the top of the ACC. Win the ACC and you guys might be looking at the playoff...
