Thought we'd at least be hearing rumors by now

You have 2 options. Keep him or can him.

Option 1 - Keep Him:
He's going to make a few coaching changes. But what quality of coach are you going to get with the main guy on the hot seat? How many decent players head for the portal? You have 12-13 average recruits coming in? Really? The schedule next year isn't that easy. You get maybe 3-4 wins if that? Maybe?

Option 2 - Can Him:
You going to pay the 9 mil buyout? So there's a rabbit jumping out of a hat somewhere? Another impressive coordinator that talks good in an interview? Some old boy that's all washed up? I seriously doubt the AD has done much homework on this.

I haven't got a clue how to fix this. Of course when Colletto got canned, I wanted Bob Davie as HC. Not some fly fisherman from Wyoming.

If this is true, then we have bigger problems than we realize. I don't think it's true. IF Bobinski is planning to fire Walters, he has to have done some homework already.

I dearly hope that is what Bobinski is doing right now. It makes no sense to fire Walters before the season ends. Our best outcome is that our AD has a top replacement ready to hit the ground running on Dec 1st.

Also, I'm glad Bobinski has made no public comment. What's he supposed to say? "I support Coach Walters."?
If he is going to keep him no matter what, he should've given CRW his support weeks ago. Since he has failed to do so, I suspect that CRW is gone.
Honestly, the only thing that keeps CRW as head coach is if Bobo has no one to replace him with by early signing 12.4.24. At that point, they blame the coming player compensation........

And let's be fair, he was sorta put in to a no-win (pun intended) situation. Zero head coaching experience .. zero experience rebuilding a program... tough schedules... and really doesn't know how to develop players.

It was a risk that just didn't pay off... and if something isn't done, next season could be the final nail in the coffin for the program as the fans will just not show up/watch/stop caring.
I gotta push back against this…

No way in hell will I accept the notion that CRW was put in a “no-win” situation! Upon accepting the job, I heard a bold, confident guy who gushed about being handed the keys to a Maserati….

NOBODY with the slightest grasp of reality expected 10-win seasons right off the bat — what we did expect was a competently-coached team that was building something.

Unfortunately for him and us- CRW has failed in developing talent, implementing an offensive or defensive identity , and game planning to demonstrate even a basic level of competitiveness against most Power 4 competition.

Remember the days when Hazel was coaching and all we wanted was a competitive team.... Here we are again..

They could cut the prices in half for next year and I wouldn’t go if Walters is still here.

Frees up entire fall weekends to go to fun places with Mrs New Pal.
Might I also suggest to not fall over yourself to give them your time and money back when they do finally decide to go in another direction. Even if/when they hire a good coach. They do not care about your experience or you as a person and there will always be other solid options for your time and money each fall.

They are banking on x percent of fans backing them no matter what and y percent of fans to be highly forgiving and back whenever forced to make a change. Both x and y obviously need to be lower.

Yeah, we’ll see. I’m hoping there’s a larger strategy here that becomes clearer at some point…

You know this is a good point. If he made any other comments right now other than "we've parted ways with CRW" it likely would look like he is supporting him staying and that would be.. bad.
I just say Purdue named a new Deputy AD, whatever that means. IMO "silence" is gold with a coaching change. Last year IU fans were wanting a public statement from the AD and never got one until the morning after the Purdue loss. All good or ALL ADs have a list of coaches at all times in all sports.

That CRW would be getting fired by reputable sources.

I guess it doesn't matter if CRW coaches the bucket game or not although I'm not sure why the love affair with Card. Unless Card has an outer body experience, I dont see him leading us to enough points to stay up with Indiana.
At this point I highly doubt Walters gets canned this year. Rumors I’ve heard are that Bobo wants to retire. If true I doubt he sticks the next AD with a guy he just hired.

Who knows what will happen, but it seems more like he's staying put. Purdue has put out that they need more NIL investment and seems like they are waiting on final revenue sharing arrangement. If Walters stays, then he needs to get an experienced coach on his staff. Get a guy like Jerry Kill as a top advisor or assistant head coach role that Walters can lean on and learn from. Get a decently relatively well known guy to provide some boost, then replace staff as needed. And for Pete's sake, get some LBs, and rush end or 2.

If he’s staying, there’s no point in wasting money on another 1-11 team. Let basketball have what they need, then save the rest for the new coach to spend in December 2025.
