Some of those shots Carsen put up....wow. Keeps amazing me with how good of a shooter he is.

Really like what I'm seeing from Haarzingis!
Does anybody see him pushing Haas for playing time at some point this year?
Let's not fall into the scrimmage All Star trap. We've seen plenty of guys have great scrimmages and exhibition games only to struggle in the regular season.

Haarms has shown he can contribute but he's still playing only when Haas needs a breather unless a matchup dictates otherwise. For example, I could see him taking a run at Wagner of Michigan if he starts going off again. But even then, I think a healthy (fingers crossed) Jacquil gets first crack at that defensive assignment.

Fair enough. I just haven't seen too many guys with that combination of size, jump shot, passing ability, and footwork.

I get what you are saying, but in looking at the Haarms highlights, it’s hard not to think that he’ll be a very good player for Purdue and possibly sooner rather than later.

Smotherman led all scorers in last year's scrimmage if I remember right. Need more recent history than that?
Basil was a heck of a player but couldn't stay off the weed...which is why he got suspended from the team. His play and standing on the team suffered which eventually led to his leaving the team. Let's hope MH doesn't have the same illegal habit.

There have been many other examples since (Basil and Bade are two more recent ones). Kilgore was the first in the internet age and most notable (actually heard people say he’d step right into Big Dog’s shoes).
Glenn graduated 8 years prior to Kilgore arriving to Purdue. I highly doubt anyone said he would step right into the Big Dog's shoes.

gotta see more, but not sure about Taylor on Wagner with Haas in the game, because I'm guessing that Haarm's may turn the tables in forcing more D out of Wagner by having to guard what appears to be a better offenive player in Haarms. Still, we need to see more to know for sure

I think it’s more than fair to be allowed to be overly optimistic about Haarms. How many 7’3 guys are there in the entire world who can dribble/pass/shoot and not look uncoordinated doing it as a freshman?
Hopefully Painter figures out how to best use him this season.

Lol at the ‘and not look uncoordinated’ comment above. I know exactly what the poster is saying, but it isn’t exactly setting the bar high now is it? I need basketball to start. I am ready for the rubber to meet the road.

I was at the Mich game at Mich, and watched Mo eat us up on the perimeter. The only thing that was effective was when CMP put VE on him late in the 1st half. The damage had already been done. Imo with Haas in the game, Vince has to guard the bigs on the perimeter. Isaac and Biggie were way to slow to get out on Mo and when they did he went right around them.

Weed is legal in Amsterdam.

I will say that Haarms looked good defensively in the post against Haas...who is probably one of the best 2 or 3 post offensive players in the country. He held great position, used his lower body to hold that position, and forced Haas in to really having to work and use multiple moves to get his shots. If Haarms can do that along with hitting that square-up 12-15 foot jumper....he deserves to see 10-15 minutes a game when Haas needs a breather.

Haven't watched the Haas video yet, but from the Haarms video, it looks like Haarms got the better of Isaac. Also, the box score says Isaac was 0-3 (C Edwards 3-0). That's disappointing that the group Isaac played with always lost. But I thought I saw Carson and Isaac on the same side in one of the scrimmage videos, so maybe the box is wrong.

Then it looks like Haarms coming in last January with a red shirt is paying off. Practicing against Biggie and Isaac would certainly give him a lesson on using lower body I would think....Just sooo excited about our Boilers this season!

Man, we look good! I know its just a scrimmage, but I am liking what I am seeing. I think we are going to get after it and I think it is going to be a fun season to watch unfold! Can't wait! 18 more days!

Well, I think Purdue will be pretty good...but remember a lot of that scoring that was so easy was against a horrible 2-3 zone.
