Watching Haarms get those 12-15’ jump shots off reminded me a little of JaJuan Johnson. Nice touch!
Let's not fall into the scrimmage All Star trap. We've seen plenty of guys have great scrimmages and exhibition games only to struggle in the regular season.Really like what I'm seeing from Haarzingis!
Does anybody see him pushing Haas for playing time at some point this year?
Fair enough. I just haven't seen too many guys with that combination of size, jump shot, passing ability, and footwork.Let's not fall into the scrimmage All Star trap. We've seen plenty of guys have great scrimmages and exhibition games only to struggle in the regular season.
Haarms has shown he can contribute but he's still playing only when Haas needs a breather unless a matchup dictates otherwise. For example, I could see him taking a run at Wagner of Michigan if he starts going off again. But even then, I think a healthy (fingers crossed) Jacquil gets first crack at that defensive assignment.
I get what you are saying, but in looking at the Haarms highlights, it’s hard not to think that he’ll be a very good player for Purdue and possibly sooner rather than later.Let's not fall into the scrimmage All Star trap. Basil was a heck of a player but couldn't stay off the weed...which is why he got suspended from the team. His play and standing on the team suffered which eventually led to his leaving the team. Let's hope MH doesn't have the same illegal habit.Smotherman led all scorers in last year's scrimmage if I remember right. Need more recent history than that?
So we should all pump the breaks on MH because a decent juco had a good scrimmage 15 years ago? kUs old timers call it the Darmetrius Kilgore effect.
Glenn graduated 8 years prior to Kilgore arriving to Purdue. I highly doubt anyone said he would step right into the Big Dog's shoes. There have been many other examples since (Basil and Bade are two more recent ones). Kilgore was the first in the internet age and most notable (actually heard people say he’d step right into Big Dog’s shoes).
Sorry, poor wording. Implication was he was the second coming.Glenn graduated 8 years prior to Kilgore arriving to Purdue. I highly doubt anyone said he would step right into the Big Dog's shoes.
gotta see more, but not sure about Taylor on Wagner with Haas in the game, because I'm guessing that Haarm's may turn the tables in forcing more D out of Wagner by having to guard what appears to be a better offenive player in Haarms. Still, we need to see more to know for sureLet's not fall into the scrimmage All Star trap. I will say that Haarms looked good defensively in the post against Haas...who is probably one of the best 2 or 3 post offensive players in the country. He held great position, used his lower body to hold that position, and forced Haas in to really having to work and use multiple moves to get his shots. If Haarms can do that along with hitting that square-up 12-15 foot jumper....he deserves to see 10-15 minutes a game when Haas needs a breather.Let's not fall into the scrimmage All Star trap. Well, I think Purdue will be pretty good...but remember a lot of that scoring that was so easy was against a horrible 2-3 zone.Man, we look good! I know its just a scrimmage, but I am liking what I am seeing. I think we are going to get after it and I think it is going to be a fun season to watch unfold! Can't wait! 18 more days!
