I just got home from watching the game, and I am so disappointed/angry that Purdue didn't win this game. This is as tough a game to swallow for me in recent memory. My rant:
I'd love to hear Painter's explanation for the timeout at the end of regulation. Very questionable. Why was PJ subbed in there? Does Scott have a foot out the door already? He's been a good on the ball defender, and if there was a time to use him, that was it.Why in the hell did we keep jacking up threes? Yes, some were open, but too many came after bad offense or were just plain bad shots. 26 threes?? Really???? Stephens? Where are you?
But of all the things that anger me the most is our inability to handle a press at the end of a game. This has been a weakness all year and Purdue has YET to figure something out. That is just maddening.
I get it that Painter didn't miss free throws or shoot 4-26 from 3, but I think it's fair to say this wasn't his best game.
Very, very disappointing way to end the season. We have some nice pieces for next year, but I fear there isn't a PG on this roster that is capable of getting us back to the NCAAs. I really hope I'm wrong about that. If Hammons leaves, then next year gets even murkier.
