The wooden spoon award is given to the team that finishes last in a competition. In a single elimination tournament it is given to the team that loses to the team that lost to the team that lost to... the team that lost in the championship. Fittingly, Purdue earns that honor this year. Purdue lost to Little Rock, who lost to Iowa State, who lost to Virginia, who lost to Syracuse, who lost to UNC, who lost to Nova.
 
I'm trying to figure out how this designation is meaningful in any way.

Yeah, I get how it is awarded, and we did crap the bed, but MSU easily had the biggest loss of the tournament. They were in so many "experts" final 4 and virtually no one had them losing in the 1st, err. 2nd round. We sucked up the tournament, but MSU was definitely the biggest flop.
