The toughest remaining opponent is?

The Penn State game would fit the profile of our other losses pretty well. Reminds me alot of Iowa actually. Team we hammered at home earlier and has enough pride to come at us strong on their homecourt. I expect a great effort from them Tuesday.

Good thing Purdue will have about as many fans as PSU will. That place is dead.

I've been worried about this NW have for a couple weeks now.

I've been worried about the week for a couple weeks now. 2 away games late in season. Could be a huge week confidence wise with a couple of W's but going to be rough. See what they have learned.

I agree. Penn St has been Jekyll and Hyde this season. Plus the weird 6 pm tip and likely light attendance. Gonna be a tough game to get up for. Hope the Boilers are ready to grind one out.

Toughest test may be the B10 tourney. Think that's a absolute must to win this year to garner some damn respect in CB. I'd be delighted going 6-1 rest of way and cutting down nets. It's Purdue's time to win that damn thing.

They never use it for seeding though , it's like that every year

MSU was a good match up for us.... I think we could beat them 80% of the time. However, I was still impressed with Purdue's perimeter D.....hope they keep that up.

Still, Purdue needs to get their outside game going to increase their winning percentage long term.

This might be our toughest week to measure the Boilers by......with two back to back road games.

Always the next one, Purdue should expect all these teams to be hyped to try beat the Big Ten leader as well we beat all already. (except Mich)

Remember, after Maryland lost to Purdue they went to Penn State on a weeknight and lost.

Playing in a dead atmosphere is not always an advantage.

IU
Or @ northwestern

Ask me after....ha

And don't forget PSU.

Each game presents unique challenges:

We are playing two senior day road games @ Michigan and @ Northwestern.

IU is a rivalry game that can always go either way - and if IU does get healthier, they could get only get better. IU's strengths are also similar to ours - like rebounding. The game will likely not come easy and we barely got out of there with a win.

Michigan is playing good ball right now and could very well be on a 5 game winning streak when we play.

On the same level, Northwestern is well on their way to make the tournament for the first time. Their home finale on a weekend will be one of their best atmospheres ever. We humiliated them at Purdue without one of their best players - they will have this game circled.

And then you have Penn State - who has been very hot and cold and in a dull atmosphere, it's an easy trap game.

Penn state worries me some because they are easy to over look. I think all three (Michigan, IU, and northwestern) will be tough. They will want to beat us. Take it one game at a time and play hard.

Toughest opponent is.......the Boilers themselves.

When you approach games based on playing to perfection... the opponent becomes yourself, and competing to the standard of perfection.

Personally, I have become impressed with the increase in Purdue's D .. however the because of the energy they're exerting.... their shooting is suffering. I really don't think we have not seen Purdue's best game yet....and unlike the excitement read on here I have not been as excited because of the flaws in their outside game. I am waiting for them to put it all together.... that perfect game. Let' hope we see it in late March!

Destiny is in purdue's own hands. Can't ask for much more than that. They know if they win out they will be Big Ten champs. It all starts Tuesday with penn state.

related to that, here's a quote from VE, post-game:

QUESTION: On appreciating the season the team is having…

Vincent Edwards: “I mean we kept the confidence, we’ve seen some crazy things happen in this league and I’ve just been trying to tell the other guys that we’re still here, we’re right where we want to be. I still had confidence in us and we still had confidence in ourselves so you know for us to be right here in first place is huge, but right now we just have to focus on winning one game at a time. We know what to do to win a Big Ten Championship and we have to go and do it."

Great point Sammy! When Purdue's opponent's. Get to 70 first or over 75 points we are normally in trouble.

They might as well just get in the "win and advance" mindset now. Good preparation for the BTT and NCAA.

That is the quickest way to lose any or all. ONE GAME AT A TIME. Penn St will NOT be easy either.

Why would fans discussing the hardest remaining game have any outcome on how the team performs? Why would a poster listing their opinion on the remaining games be "the quickest way to lose any or all. ONE GAME AT A TIME."?

Honest question because I see posters on this board tell it to other posters all the time.

I had this exact same thought reading this thread (and others). Fan chatter about the remaining schedule and ease or difficulty of particular games could not have any less of an impact on the actual games. It's almost like the people that say that stuff are living in a fantasy world where they think they're part of the real team!

I'm too lazy to look things up, but it feels like we've had many close games with PSU at their place. Tomorrow would be the most likely game to drop...

Yes, and relatively low-scoring. Under CMP, Purdue is 6-4 @ the Tomb * (Bryce Jordan Center). Purdue didn't play there last year, so the last visit was the game where Kendall Stephens made a late three off of a missed free throw to force overtime, IIRC.

'15 84-77 (W) (OT)
'14 68-79 (L)
'13 58-49 (W)
'12 45-65 (L)
'11 83-68 (W)
'10 64-60 (W)
'09 64-67 (L)
'08 64-42 (W)
'07 69-59 (W)
'06 54-74 (L)

thanks chief, although you forgot the 78. Even when we had Big Dog, we only won by 7 up there. I was 4 rows behind our bench for that one. Another time I went up there when we had Miller and Austin and layed an egg and made Calvin Booth look like Bill Russell.

Yeah, I think Miller and Austin lost twice up there, including as seniors ranked in the top 5....that was one of a number of frustrating games in '98.

Calvin Booth, ugh. The fact he somehow managed to hang around the NBA for 10 years makes me believe Biggie AND Haas will be in the league for a while, although the game is different now.

I mean, nobody is living in a bubble.

The fan chatter seeps up to the media then seeps up into publication/exposure to everyone. And I don't think the players read these forums by any means, but the same people that talk on here, talk to their friends, talk about stuff on social media and the players are exposed to it. Now, is a player going to see a comment about how we'll run the table and say they don't need to worry about game prep? No, but there's a lot of mental stuff to the game - if they start hearing over and over how good they are, it can have an impact. Look at the NBA draft stuff - how many kids talk about going pro not living in reality at all. It's because people around them talk about it, so they think it's true.

I guarantee you every article written about Purdue before the NCAA Tournament will talk about how fans are restless to win the first round game - there will be tremendous pressure and that's all the press will ask them.

Yes, there will be pressure to win an NCAA game. But that pressure will be because the "program" has failed to achieve a single tournament win in several years. And it's a program that should. It isn't because the fans irrationally expected the team to progress at tourney time. If the latter was the case, your argument would make more sense. But the fan expectations are rationale, so yes they support the media's line of question, but they aren't fanning its flames by any stretch. In the most recent years, the "program" has either not made the tourney or lost the opening game in near-bewildering fashion where the game looked to be W for Purdue. The fans didn't cause those outcomes, nor are they to blame for the media covering and/or inquiring about it. That's my take.

I'm not gonna get into a debate about NCAA Tournament. But Purdue had the longest first round winning streak in the nation I believe until 2 years ago. We lost as a #9 seed to an 8 seed. Last year's loss was disappointing, but Purdue has largely avoided those types of upsets under Painter. To act like it's a "problem" is pushing it.

yes, Purdue did have a winning streak of winning the first round games but I think fans want to see more than that from this team. You have to take advantage of having an all American player on your team in Biggie. I say to raise the bar and hope to get to the Final 4. Winning only the opening round would be a shame.

it is about one game at a time and it is really up to Purdue. If they play hard, aggressive and their game, NO ONE left on the schedule will beat them. It is now about how much they want that championship.

When did I say we only need to win one game? I was responding to someone who complained about the program "failing" in the tournament.
