The same people who want strict gun control don't prosecute those that shouldn't have guns in the first place. The alleged gunman was on probation because he possessed a firearm illegally as a felon. He should have been in jail instead of on probation. The hypocrisy and unwillingness to enforce current gun laws are unbelievable...

If he was on probation for illegally possessing a gun, then he necessarily WAS prosecuted. Whether the sentence was appropriate is another discussion, and one you and I would probably agree on.

He wasn't prosecuted for possession of meth and was placed on probation for possession of a handgun when he was already a felon. I don't call that prosecution at all...

I mean, you can not call it that if you want, but definitionally, he was prosecuted for the handgun. You can't agree to a plea deal unless there are charges, and you can't be sentenced (probation is a sentence) for chargers that are dropped. I didn't say anything about the drug charges that were dropped, and neither did you in your initial post. They are not relevant to whether or not he was prosecuted for illegally possessing a gun, which he was.

Like I said, the severity of the sentence is another question, and I suspect we would both agree it should have been more severe. But, given that he received a sentence at all, one cannot argue that he was not prosecuted.

I understand the technicalities. IMHO, prosecutors need to be held accountable in cases like this where their lack of appropriate plea deals result in someone's death.

A fair opinion, just not what you said to begin with. I was just trying to clarify incorrect information regarding that particular story.
