Every year I become curious around this time.. to those of you who used to like it even 10 years ago, do you still like it? Where are you on it?

I try to get into it and I just can’t. And that’s not just me being a Stan as a 90s bulls fan. I was able to get into Lakers and Celtics when it was kobe vs Garnett, pierce etc. I loved the 03 Spurs and rooting against Shaq’s Lakers.

I just think Jerry colangelo ruined the game in 06. And every year, I seem to have less and less people disagreeing with me.

the last time I followed the NBA was when the Suns had KJ, Chambers, Dan M., Hornacek, Adams etc., I enjoyed watching that team.

I enjoy watching the playoffs (NOT the regular season) but a lot of the games are on too late for me, if I have to work the next day.

So you’d say that you’re in the camp that enjoys the playoffs equally to even 10 years ago? I’m just asking.. what you like is what you like

I enjoy the playoffs when I get courtside seats from firms I do business with. Otherwise meh. Been meh since Kobe and dirk retired

I like the GSW teams better, and more entertaining.
Problem.. talking about teams competing when you can’t impede them with a hand. Tony Parker is a much different player if you can’t touch him.

also, how do you do small? Tim Duncan can run stride for stride with draymond green. What’s green gonna do on the other end? Green never had to guard a combo size athleticism and skill like Duncan down low. And people say “but the three is better at 42% than the two at 50.” What do you do when a post player is shooting 65, 70 percent?

Who’s guarding KD, Curry, and Klay?

Who’s guarding KD, Curry, and Klay?

KD - Bruce Bowen. One of the finest swing man defenders ever. I don’t drink marketing syrup, so I know about Durant losing to Memphis and shooting 42% against a battery of a retiring tayshaun prince and Tony Allen.

that whole “kd is a jordanesque threat” falls apart when he has James harden abs loses to the bucks. So that one is gone.

steph - Steph was out there when David lee was the starter and as soon as draymond got inserted things took off. The real problem with previous eras is that there were plenty of big men who were more athletic than him, bigger, and able to actually function with their back to the basket. As well as being able to stay ahead of him defensively. Once that’s gone curry is shooting heads up against a player who is faster than him in Tony Parker

klay - go back in time and ask kobe about manu ginobili.

those three players would certainly do well, but you’ve never watched the warriors play when draymond is getting absolutely owned. It would make Steph curry what he was before draymond became the mismatch nightmare of the decade.. the Steph curry who played with David lee.

the warriors go small and the Spurs lineup is David Robinson out, manu ginobili in..

Duncan
Bowen
Jackson
Ginobili
Parker

that’s a far better team than the cavs team that beat them.

LOL. He’d foul out in 10 minutes. Didn’t read the rest.

Tony Allen
Tayshaun prince

kevin Durant 42.1% in a loss. Bowen was a worse defender than a retiring Tayshaun prince or Tony Allen?

this is the problem with fans of Durant, lebron James and wilt chamberlain.. they don’t understand things that have actually happened and get way too involved in their perceptions.

and that’s in the most charitable set of rules. With normal rules Durant would be injury riddled within four years. But this isn’t about normal basketball .. it’s about Maxing those corporate dollars

Durant and curry would not be league defining superstars with even normal physicality. Tim Duncan would be Tim Duncan in any era

I'm not that old so my NBA history is limited, but not sure you will ever find a more talented offensive player in NBA history than Kevin Durant. Will go down as the best pure scorer in the history of the game when he retires.

Also, you aren’t understanding what made GSW function and why draymond green told Kevin Durant they didn’t need him anyway.

the thing that made GSW win more games before they got Durant than they did with him was the two man game with curry and green where green has been too quick for some big men and too big for others. It’s been very hard to find a big man who is as big and quick as green and that’s what started a chain reaction that made the warriors much different than they were with David lee starting.

Duncan was bigger and more athletic than green. So now the screen with curry isn’t really doing anything. Obviously those three would get theres, but it wouldn’t turn into this thing where everyone is wide open.. Parker, ginobili and Bowen would contest shots and yes.. those three would score. But you wouldn’t have everyone wide open and green and iguodala wouldn’t do anything.

now on the other end, draymond green would be unable to function against tim Duncan. He would foul out and without constant doubles, Duncan would score at such a high clip it would nullify the three. With doubles, everyone would come wide open.

again, they lost to a team that’s nowhere near as good as the Spurs.

thompson
Love
James
Smith
Irving

robinson
Duncan
Bowen
Ginobili
Parker

you do realize Bruce Bowen once held lebron James to 35.6% FG for a Series right? Lol

This is too silly to respond to.
It’s not. I’d f-ing love to see either one of them yanked to the ground and the announcer say “sometimes you have to pay for going to the paint.”

curry is not a great athlete. He’s not a leaper. Durant is light in the ass.

these were factors in the old rules. You had to be both strong and an elite athlete to be an elite player in that era. The lone exception is Larry bird who was a big 6’9” and had every skill. He was a very physical player who could hit running threes and had eyes in the back of his head.

the rules were designed to create THE APPEARANCE of more superstars.

“yeah but if John starks grabs curry and funnels him to Ewing, curry doesn’t have the athleticism to go up over Ewing and dunk”

colangelo “that’s cool. We can just make a set of rules that nullifies all of that.”

Tony Allen and tayshaun prince got MARGINALLY physical with durant. You should go watch that series.

you think it’s so silly cause you drink the syrup but you obviously don’t understand that there were so many players that were completely neutralized by joe dumars or Dennis Johnson or Sidney moncrief just putting one hand on them and guiding them wherever they want.

the way you overcome that is elite quickness and athleticism. Curry isn’t that kinda player. The way you get RID of that requirement is just make it so he can’t be touched

I’m much less concerned with what people are capable of than what they actually do ..

Durant ..
> has never led a team that wasn’t absolutely loaded to anything
> had James harden, lost to giannis with no James harden like figure.
> shot 42.1% in a series loss to a grizzled team with no one on it

if you look at the careers of Jordan, Abdul-Jabbar, Johnson, Russell, Bird and Duncan, you don’t find series like that .. they always won the ones they were supposed to and you can’t find a series where it’s like “oh yeah larry bird played a team with a bunch of dudes on it, shot 42% and lost.” “Larry bird had wade and bosh and lost to dirk and a bunch of guys from the mall.” Never happened

then you look at steph curry. Draymond green will be in the hall of fame.. so .. when he has one hall of fame teammate instead of 2 or 3, he barely cracks .500. 39-33?

larry bird joined one hall of famer in 1979 and they went from 29-53 to 61-21 before the arrival if Parrish and Mchale

I think guys get crowned too quickly and in too grandiose a manner. In every players prime money making years.. it’s just like kobe. Tons of things get said about X player that nobody thinks 5 years after they are done. Kobe was “better than Jordan” late in his career. 5 years later nobody thought that.

it’s what the nba does .. dirk was better than bird until 5 years later when he wasn’t.

I was watching an old game on YouTube and I saw the commercial that crystallized it for me. “Watch the Celtics and their young superstarS Paul pierce AND ANTOINE WALKER.” Anyone still think Antoine walker was a superstar?? Lol

IMHO you are asking 2 different questions (maybe 3).

1. Do I like the NBA as a whole ....no - I hate the 82 game regular season and the playoffs take WAY too much time.

2.Do I like the players controlling the league and manipulating the team rosters - no - I hate it.
3. Do I like the game itself.....its getting better. The ISO years were horrible but the GS teams were awesome to watch...especially when they were using the passing advanced metric.

The playoff games this year have been good, especially when the star players aren't drama queens (LeBron, KD, Irving, etc).

Middleton, Giannas, Booker, etc are fun to watch.

So its a mixed bag.

GSW years probably the best thing since 03, but I do think they’d have a hard time with Kobe’s Lakers, the Celtics and dirk. All teams With a big guy who is bigger and more athletic than draymond green. And for GSW everything has always centered around green creating the mismatch

do you watch much college basketball anymore either?
