Once again this week as former player Nicki (Taggert) Colleen was named head coach at Baylor University replacing the legendary player and coach Kim Mulkey who shocked the wbb world when she resigned to take the head coaching job at LSU. Taggert is the wife of former Dunn assistant Tom Colleen who was head coach of wbb programs at Louisville, Arkansas and Colorado State. Tom Colleen was a Dunn assistant at Purdue along with former Duke and Texas head coach Gail Gostenkoers. Other Dunn players who became head coaches include Purdue’s Sharon Versyp, Indiana’s Terri Moren, Toledo’s Tricia Cullop and former head coaches Machelle Joseph of Georgia Tech and Stephanie White of Vanderbilt. Prior to accepting the Baylor job Colleen was head coach of the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA.

I would like to see if Purdue would bring Coach Dunn back on campus to honor her. She was the most successful Women's' BB coach Purdue ever had. The 1999 NCAA championship was won by an former assistant coach using Dunn's recruits. I seem to remember that her and Burke had a disagreement over her salary (the rumor mill said she wanted to be paid the same as Keady). Since the ladies did not sellout Mackey area like Keady did, she was never going to be paid the same as Keady. I also heard there was a suspected rumor of a personal issue that Burke had with Dunn that I will not bring up because I have no knowledge of. However, the fact remains-Dunn was the best Women's' BB coach Purdue ever had. Just like Rick Mount, Purdue should do what they can to bring Dunn back to honor her. Since Burke is gone, there should be no reason for Purdue to not "mend the fence" with Coach Dunn. I though she was a great recruiter and game coach.

The fences were mended while Burke was still AD with her induction in the Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame. As an FYI, LSU just hired Mulkey away from Baylor and will pay her more than the men’s coach, Will Wade. She signed an eight year deal averaging $2.9 million

I agree 100%

Actually hurt Frank Kendrick and it took Gene's main recruiter down...but he was doing something that was against NCAA rules at the time. But yes the whole thing was a huge mess.

des, I lived in Lafayette when Lin Dunn and her asst coach MaChelle Joseph got into a "lovers" fist fight - both wearing only underwear - in their backyard and that event led to Dunn's dismissal. I personally spoke with a Lafayette PD officer who reported to that call. It happened. That's why Dunn was fired.

You may try to candycoat it now, years later, but there was a different era back then and that type of behavior was unacceptable at the time.

I can't imagine it's any more acceptable now. In fact, there's a good chance if they did that today it would be up on social media that same night. Unless you are just talking about the general lifestyle and not that specific incident.

Things were indeed different back then. We had our best women's coach ever - and there weren't many back then - and then Boom, she was dismissed. Never a public explanation by the news media nor from Purdue.
