as a Native Clevelander...that makes some sense.....making sure the Cuyahoga River doesn't catch fire again. If they keep up the recent front office antics, it will be Guardians of the Cellar once more.

For many of us, it will always be the Indians.....the Tribe.....and remembering the old cavernous Municipal Stadium and getting double-header tickets behind the plate against the Orioles, Red Sox, and Yankees for $8.00.

Once every seven or eight years, they'd make a late spring run to give a tiny bit of hope......but then make sure all was gone by the end of August so you could concentrate on your new school year. :)

Kindly step off the outfield grass, Nat.....just freshly mown.

You blame the front office? I’d blame the dolans. Antonetti has done well considering the constraints placed on him

Totally with you - I include ownership in front office - they're ultimately running the show....ownership would have been a more accurate term - as some of the recent success has been in spite of the Dolans to many.

Yeah, Francona and antonetti built a hell of a stable of pitchers at all levels. Too bad they can’t hit on their position players as well

Louis Sockalexis was an Indian who was a star Cleveland Spiders outfielder in the 1890's. The Spiders were then called the Naps after Nap Lajoie but when Nap was traded they became the Indians although not officially named after Sockalexis. Changing the name makes as much sense as tearing down statues of abolitionists.

It was in Richfield Ohio. Midway between Akron and cleveland. Larry nance junior went to high school there

I thought he was asking about the Jerry West game....haha....now I'm really confused. :)

Yeah, rode past the Ritchfield Coliseum about a thousand times back in the day before it was demolished. The building was pretty decent (except for only one concourse level), but the traffic flow and parking left a lot to be desired out in the far suburbs, and eventually the Cavaliers moved back downtown.

Jerry west would be better than Steph curry today. Dude got his nose broken 9 times and averaged what 25 with no three point line

Mommy; these woke liberals destroying the USA. Should we still have the “I am an American” at Purdue football games? I say yes but the rest of the board would like your opinion.
It’s really mind blowing that such a few can change the ways and names of something that so many people have enjoyed for decades. Just can’t imagine that this was offensive to people. Seems like a privilege that a sports franchise would honor people by naming their team after them.

I think redskins is an exception but to me this is just weird even if you’re for renaming

I got to see him play toward the end of his career. As time moves on, IMO, I think he sometimes gets overlooked (along with Elgin Baylor) because of his Lakers teams' overall record in the Finals. Despite the 1-8, he was as tough as they come. Also, a hall-of-famer as an executive and still (I think) the only Finals MVP from the losing team ('69).

How about the Cleveland Riverburners? Seems fitting given the town's history.
On a related note, I'm guessing there will be calls to rename the Indianapolis Indians as well. I'm ready for that one - just go with the Indianapolis Engines - accomplishes the name change while at the same time irritating the local whiners.

That’s what I wanted to name them

It's pretty pedestrian, but they could have done worse. As a non-fan, I like the name 'Indians' better but mostly for nostalgia reasons (it's pretty generic as well). I wonder how long the Indianapolis Indians will be able to hold out (or even Indianapolis and Indiana for that matter 😀).

With non contact I think he’d be free to do his thing. I saw the 69 finals game 7 fourth quarter and I thought it would be chamberlain calling for the ball all day.. the whole offense appeared to be going through west
