People are upset, because 3 of the 4 finalists in the NCAAT are known cheaters. The solution to the problem seems to be to make the buying of players legal, which will save the NCAA a lot of time pretending to enforce rules that they really don't want to enforce.
Enter NIL, which allows schools to create opportunities for student-athletes to get paid openly, so the NCAA doesn't have to spend all that time & money pretending it isn't going on, or doing all the mock investigations. It's a win - win for everyone, except the fans, who actually want to see a level playing field.
The new entity in town is the NIL Collective, which is essentially a group of wealthy donors, who are going to buy the players for the team they support. I believe the U, of Texas has a collective that has amassed $10Million and they're openly advertising that any OL, who commit to UT will receive $50K. Now we all know that it won't be just ANY OL, who'll get that money. It'll only be a very select few, who'll meet their criteria.
There are currently 35 collectives covering 30 schools, with some having multiple collectives: TX - 3, AZ - 2, UF - 2, IU -2, PSU - 2.
The collectives in the B1G are:
IU - 2
O$U
PSU - 2
IL
MD
MN
There are also University-specific Marketing and Talent Agencies being used. B1G teams using this model are:
O$U, UM, Nebby
There are also Local NIL Exchanges/Marketplaces by School:
MSU & UM
For the last two entities, I just noted the B1G participants. You'll notice a certain school we all know and love is missing from any of these lists. It appears that once again we're observing, while others are taking action. If this is the wave of the future, why is our leadership not only NOT in the front seat of the bus, but there are not even any indications that we're aware that the bus even exists, as we meander aimlessly down the sidewalk.
I don't want us to cheat, but the NCAA does not consider NIL cheating, so why are we so slow to adapt to our new environment?
Here's a link that will give you amplifying info:
