Landing Biggie came with several prior key earlier steps IMO. AJ was a prospect that seemed high on our radar...then came a bit of a cooling process during his recruitment and I seem to remember AJ ultimately chose us over Minnesota. Not a slam dunk by any means.

If AJ loses weight and has more drive in high school, he is likely pursued by quite a few higher profile schools. Several seemed turned off by his work ethic. We also could have landed other post players offered by Painter and almost all would not have been definitive centers. 4's playing as 5's like you see all too often in the collegiate game. Haas also was a late recruit and interesting how he landed here with the coaching change at Wake. We could have filled that slot since both Haas and Purdue moved on after his commitment to Wake. We were fortunate to have an open scholly. With Haas as young legitimate center, and also not a kid who needed 2-3 years to produce makes a huge difference in making the "business decision" of CS feeling like he can develop in the position that will ultimately help him realize his next level goals. . Timing is so critical in some recruiting cases...pleased how it has worked in our favor this time.

AJ was a prospect that seemed high on our radar...then came a bit of a cooling process and I think ultimately chose us over Minnesota unless others remember better than I do. If AJ realizes his full potential earlier (either recruited by higher profile school) or isn't even an older collegiate player things might have shook out differently. We also could have landed other offers hedging our bets in case we don't land an aircraft carrier. Haas also was a later recruit and interesting how he landed here than Wake. Knowing that he also isn't a tweener and a young legitimate center makes a huge difference in making the "business decision" more solid in their eyes. I found it very difficult to follow this post

Think the OP started celebrating early. Let's make this the celebrating thread!

I, for one, am pounding Makers and snorting gator-tails of coke.

And I have a can of computer duster. WOOWAHWOOWAH BIGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure I'll be running around my neighborhood naked by dawn.

Who's with me?!?!?! (tic)

I think he's kind of doing a six degrees of separation thing from AJ's recruitment to Biggie's.

Spot on. After looking at it again, it wasn't very well constructed at all. Bottom line is that AJ is an older kid who could/should be out of the college game by now. Of course we landed him, but it was an interesting recruitment up until he chose us over Minny. Having him as an established center is huge with what just happened today. Landing Haas also guaranteed Biggie of definite time at the 4 after this season. The timing does make a huge difference since there are not too many top 10 recruits in our home state that stick around and commit. If we land even a higher profile post player that doesn't need the time and development AJ did, the timing might not have been right to land the biggest recruit in almost 20 years.

I truly now feel that Biggie would not have decommited from MSU if AJ hadn't announced he was coming back.

Hammons had UNC interest. Who cares who we got our recruits over it just matters that AJ turned into a huge player for Purdue.

If we had landed Harris, we would not have AJ, as he filled that scholarship, which means we may not have landed Biggie. Funny how things work out.
I'm pretty sure that Hammons committed before Harris and that Painter was willing to use the over-sign for Harris.
