Thanks for the hospitality and observation on Sindelar v. Blough

Thanks to the several Boiler fans I engaged with on this board, who were thoughtful and helped me understand where your team was leading into the game. I mentioned I have nephews and a niece who are Boiler grads, and I pull for them except against the Cats.

One thing I wanted to mention, based on watching last year’s and this year’s game was that last year, when Blough was sidelined, Sindelar looked great. He was confident and made good decisions. It struck me that this year, after the QB competition that resolved in the last week, he was pressing. He clearly should not have made the throw on 2 of the 3 interceptions (the third was a bad read compounded by a great play by the linebacker). I really thought he was looking over his shoulder, competing as much with Blough as with the Cats. I think Sindelar is a much better match to your very fast receiver set relative to Blough, has a higher ceiling, and has future eligibility. I can understand the insertion of Blough in the circumstances last night, but hope that Sindelar gets the support he needs to play with the confidence I saw in him last year. If he does, your offense will really light it up the rest of the year, and (unfortunately for me as a Cats fan) the next 2.

Thanks again!

I think Sindelar is going to be the guy. He has a bigger arm, and I love his tenacity. Last night was just the second time in his Purdue career he's thrown multiple interceptions in a game. He'll shake it off and regain the form he had at the end of last year.

But it was a tough lesson for him. He can't put Purdue's young defense in bad situations if he's going to lead this team.

Classy post, and good luck to your Wildcats the rest of the season.

I keep going back and forth on this Blough vs Sindelar thing. The offense has definitely looked the best under Brohm when Sindelar is in there. Short of the killer TO's, he was moving the ball consistently during the first half.

If Blough leads the team to a comeback win you obviously keep him in there as a starter, but he didn't. The offense really started to spin it's wheels in the 2nd half with him under center. He might be the obvious choice if Purdue had a dominant defense, but Purdue will likely need to score around 30 to win most games this year.

For consistency, I wouldn't mind seeing Sindelar start with first team offense next Saturday. As you mentioned, this gives the offense the highest ceiling, and sticking with him might give him confidence going forward that we saw at the end of last season.

I am going with Sindelar for game 2. Agree with the above posts. Sindelar just needs to know when not to force a throw and either throw it away or take the sack. Would like to see a few more runs thrown in when Sindelar is in there. Just think the ratio was off a little. Seemed like we threw it a little too often imo.

That’s the one positive for Blough...I think we have a more balanced offense with him and his scrambling ability. It opens up our run game with RPO possibilities. It will be very interesting to see who starts. They will both play on Saturday either way. The bigger indication will be who starts against Missouri.

I found it interesting reading this week (I think in Forged) that Schellenberger almost always platooned quarterbacks to keep his backup game ready at all times, even if it was just a couple of series. Brohm appears to have learned that from him.

you have to w/ Eli, the offense is more dynamic w/ him art the helm. The O was devoid of a run game in the first half which doesn't help him out, it was just pass , pass, pass. With that their D could just keep coming at him and leads to a careless pass. I'm not comparing Eli to Drew, but let's not forget Drew threw more than a couple of risky passes in his college career. I'm sure he'll cut down on the miscues. Throwing to the TE is a QB's safety valve, we have 2 really good ones, and they were hardly used. Had some big plays by Moore , could have used him as a decoy to suck up their LB's and curl the TE in the space created. psu did that alot w/ Barkley and Gisecki.

the one negative is that w/ Blough it's all short stuff and the opposing D condenses the field and it's really hard to keep a drive alive.

Same here. I hate the QB flip flopping that is running rampant in all of college ball it seems now. Pick one and stick with him as I can't imagine it will be easy to work through issues if you don't play.
