Tayson Parker

Uh yeah. We'll go ahead and take him. Parker was first brought to this board last year and I said what is Painter waiting for? Looks like Carson 2.0 but with even more bounce.

Just a guess but maybe we want to complete 2018 and get an idea of what 2019 might look like before dishing out too many 2020 offers.

Yeah I get you, but how often do you see a talent like that openly express how much he wants to be a Boiler?

By the way, after opening the video posted above, there is another one on youtube I hadn't seen before. Very impressive dunks on this link.

The highlights are impressive, but when I looked up his shooting numbers (apologies I can't remember where I found them) they were alarmingly pedestrian. He hasn't been playing for long so there is of course plenty of room for improvement. Maybe Painter is waiting to see if he's more than just a good athlete? Just speculation on my part.

Edit: Per MaxPreps he's at 28% from 3 and <60% at the stripe. Not good. But again he hasn't been playing long so probably worth the risk.

I think CMP has some what defaulted to not offering guys before their junior years since he went after Raphael Davis as a freshman. I think CMP has probably stated this to many players he is recruiting because he likes to see how a guy will eventually evolve as a player and doesn't want to offer, have the player verbal, and then rescind when the player doesn't progress like CMP had hoped.

Nice looking prospect.....he need to work on using and finishing with his left hand.

He always goes right and if not he switches back to the right hand to finish.

Very athletic for sure but I think we need pass first point guards like PJ and Eastern are in our system.

He may turn out like Boogie who figured out to let the game come to him and get his teammates involved which leads to opportunity for him.

He would fit in perfect if we went up tempo.....

Always love kids who want to be Boilermakers......Boiler Up!

Davis was a fine Boilermaker. He helped the Purdue program get back to being Purdue.

Just stop

I said nothing bad about Davis. CMP went after Davis at a young age to ensure he was able to maintain the culture he felt was needed to be successful. Read my post again and notice I said nothing negative about Davis.

I was shocked when I was checking out my old high school's basketball program in the Kokomo Tribune (Northwestern HS (3A) in the countryside of Kokomo, IN). The same HS Bruce Parkinson's son played for. I thought Tayson Parker was doing some home school thing. Read the paper and found out he's playing for NWHS Tigers. Played his first game against Madison-Grant (2A) Tues night at home, and wowed the crowd with 5 dunks & 38 points. They play Tri-Central (1A) on Sat night at home (NW favored 77-32). NW not ranked yet, but probably will be soon. Here is the Kokomo Trib article:

The girls program needs to stay tuned in with the NW girls as well and see how they come along. Yeah, last night a guy that played with Austin at NW wanted to show me this kid that dunked just inside the FT line..and I told him ...yeah, been tuned into him for a couple of years. Great athlete...needs to hone in his skills...and he wants to be a good guy...like me...and him... ;)

That approach worked really well with Gary Harris...

In a case like that, or, in a case like this...maybe that is not the ideal approach.

Not sure this kid is the same level of player but I thought the deal with GH was that not only did we not offer early but we offered others in that same class, namely Davis, before him. Also, it seems to me that it came out afterwards that the family was never as interested in Purdue as many thought for reasons (Burke) that went well beyond CMP.

I think Burke slighted the family some how and it burned their bridge with the university...some one can correct me on that or clarify but I believe that is what i have heard.

I thought his mother had an issue with the way her coach at Purdue was treated. It might have been connected with the Lynn Dunn affair. That event deeply divided Purdue's WBB team.

Believe that's what I read as well. His mom was a former AA WBB player at Purdue and seemed less than thrilled with how she was treated by the administration after her playing days.

Caught most of his Tayson Parker)game last night. Parker's team had no problem against a mix of soph and seniors ...that just are not very good. Parker got 2 really bad foul calls and played about a half a game. During that time he had to score between 30 and 40 pts is my guess. he threw down 2 monster jams that rocked the bankboard.

He appears to be around 6' I'm guessing and jumps better than most college players right now as a soph. Course, the video told us that. He is not overly quick, but has enough quickness that in two years he will improve that and still fly. In high school he can score so easy, because he can just elevate over almost any player and certainly those chosen to defend him. Purdue I'm sure will will follow him and make a decision in the next year or so.

He is an athlete...a great athlete. His perimeter shooting was okay, but he has plenty of time to fine tune it. He is VERY heavily dominant with his right hand. I only saw him dribble a couple of dribbles with his left had and one was a single bounce after he took it through his legs with his left hand as he went up for a 3 ball that he made. He never complained about his bad calls and seemed to have a level head. He played within the team and was not ball dominant or needing the ball every few seconds. He seems mature mentally. So, I would say Tayson...work your left hand every day as THAT is your Achilles Heel it appears. Second, continue to work your perimeter shooting and defensive intensity. The kid has a lot of athleticism and seems to be level headed...develop those skill areas and he will take a huge step.

Outjumping players in high school won't always translate into college, but this Soph has to be in the upper few percent of athletes vertically and just needs to devote more time to skill... I'd like to catch him another game...maybe Tipton since I know they have a very good coach, but not sure what kind of team they have...
