That's the best we have played all year !

50 plus percent shooting, 40% from 3, got their bigs in foul trouble early, four guys in double figures and a 5th with 8 pts, and . . . our paint D was our best to date ! !

While 1 game doesnt make a trend, it was a great effort !

Starters played great today. PSU came back when we had subs come in in the 1st half. Starters came back and we went on a run.
Best interior D we've had in a while.

Hopefully the way we played this week will keep with us as we run the gauntlet the next 5 games. Hoping we go at least 3-2.

Interior D was tremendous today - only gave up 22 pts in layups, dunks and FT. One of the best summaries of the year, even against lesser teams

The two things I saw were Vince playing pissed off and Carson has matured and can play D for an offense oriented freshman ... it's been a while since we played pissed off

Starters were dominant...early, which set the tone, and fortunately they reestablished that when they came back in...the line-ups and substitution pattern did not make a lot of sense early on after that nice lead had been built...credit the starters for building that nice lead and then being able to get it back when they did finally get back on the floor.

Defense early on set a tone as well, and that carried throughout most of the game...one of the better defensive efforts for certain, individually and collectively...Swanigan was really good today as well...played one of his better and more complete games.

Solid effort today.....CS was particularly active, and Vincent Edwards really took it hard to the hoop against the Nittany Lions early on.

One thing CMP can't be happy about, though.....16 turnovers.....still a concern that needs to get shored up.....likely to be a difference make in some of these upcoming road contests.

it was nice to see vincent come out and be so engaged right away. also good to see spike shake off some of the rust as he is needed to break the press.

It's funny how turnovers is a problem but our ability to handle a press is night-and-day better than last year and we still turn the ball over in the halfcourt so much. Aside from the turnover when Penn State first put the press on, we absolutely shredded it after that. Great to see. Just wish we could cut back on the other turnovers but I fear that at this point in the season it's just what our team is and we'll have to hope to win in spite of it. As far as things I'd like to see us still improve on, I think if they can learn to consistently come out with the effort and focus we did on defense today then we can perhaps eliminate the hiccup games like Minnesota and Iowa.

I was really encouraged by our perimeter D as well. We did a great job stopping their penetration which has been an issue for us. PSU is young but they are athletic. The type of team that gives us trouble off the dribble. Not today. We basically forced them to be a jump shooting team. Bodes well for the future.

Like you, I think it a bit odd that they are so much better in general against the press, but turn the ball over more in the half-court.

Turnovers are definitely an achilles heel for this team...which also seems odd, as a number are made by guys that one typically would not expect to make them...they have managed to overcome them at times, but, they won't be able to afford to make those against better teams, never mind in the tournament.

I thought the defensive effort for the most part yesterday was one of the better ones of the year...individually, and collectively...if they can play like that consistently at that end, that will go a long way towards helping their cause...if they can defend like that, and then hit some shots from the outside, they are a good team for sure...when they struggle to do either, or especially if they struggle with both, not so much.

Huge (and potentially defining) stretch of 5 games coming up.

It was PJ I believe that ran into the corner along the baseline to receive that first inbounds pass against their press and I immediately thought here we go again. But then they spread the floor, even attacked a few times after breaking the press. Kudos to the staff, seem to be better schooled on breaking the press. Great all around effort which we'll need these next 5 gamed

Our two leading scorers and youngest players had the most turnovers. Biggie 4 and Carsen 3. Biggie made up for it when he blocked the subsequent shot. That's the highest I've seen him jump. He really got up there. His only other TO I remember is trying to move around with the ball when the D collapsed on him. He needs to clean those up. I don't recall Carsen's TOs.

IIRC Biggie had at least one offensive foul which I think is considered a TO in the stat sheet.
