Can anyone explain what's up with the tags that hang out of the back of the player's shorts? Here's a picture showing what I'm talking about. Are the shorts made with the tag on the outside of the shorts? Or are the players folding over the waistband so the tag sticks out? If so, why? I don't get it. Looks kinda dumb.

I think Cline has his shorts rolled up for some reason and it's just hanging out because of that.

I've seen the tag hanging out the back of multiple different player's shorts in every game this year. Last night Johnny Hill's tag was out too. Usually seems to be the guards not the big men. All I can think of is that they don't like the length of the shorts and roll the waistband to make them fit shorter.

If the only reason is they don't like the length of the shorts, can someone get these boys a pair of scissors to snip off the tags so they don't look like dorks on national tv?

Fashion statement. On a side note, coming from a generation that didn't wear the long shorts, I'll never understand why you would want to restrict your movement with the way they hang. Guess I just missed out on that fashion statement too LOL.

Its either a fashion statement or the shorts are too long.

I know that whenever I buy the replica/authentic on court shorts they look like gouchos on me....crazy long.

Exactly this...it helps them shorten the shorts length so they can have better range of motion with their legs and also utilize dribbling between the legs with less chance to get caught in the baggy shorts when dribbling.

Hill has worn his like this all season....Cline I just noticed starting doing it as well......

Hey whatever works to play good defense and protect the ball......

Boiler Up!

This is the kind of content this board needs more of. I love it.

Btw put me in the "rolled up because they're too long" column.

They roll their waistbands sometimes because they don't like the length of the shorts. Only way to make the shorts shorter.

Two out of 13 players do it. Not really a big deal.

I'm sure that is what EVERYONE is thinking. What a bunch of dorks.

Slowly but surely, the shorter shorts are coming back into style. Even as a dude in his early 20s, I love it! So sick of the long, baggy style.

LeBron started doing it this year, now everyone is doing it. I liked it better back in high school when only the chicks did this.

It actually started in colleges last year. It has slowly been growing. it is mainly aesthetic/fashion. My high school son does this because his shorts are too big in the waste and this tightens it slightly (school is too cheap to buy new unis for hoops) - so the shorter or tighter waste could be a reason for some - but I know this is a growing fashion trend.

Nike makes their stuff way too big.

Cline is 6'5" and rather skinny (so he's not exactly wearing an XXL) - and his shorts go down to his knees with them rolled up.

Total speculation, but leaving the tag intact could be a passive-aggressive way of showing their displeasure with the unis. If the reason is because it does interfere with their game, then that's a point that needs to be made.

It has been going on for years at the HS level...mainly for making the waist band feel tighter when you pull the draw string and it doesn't dig into your skin! Now those players have hit the college ranks and either out of habit or for the same reason continue to do it!
