It's funny that you post that photo because I have often thought that Pitino fancies himself as the Michael Corleone of basketball. That was reinforced when he said adidas (paraphrasing) "took what I love" as Michael said in III: "When they come, they come for what you love."

Or perhaps I've just watched the trilogy too many times.
