Team is talking up CE as the top athlete & pure scoring guard, so yes I think he will play starter's minutes... Maybe PJ, Carsen, Vince, Biggie, Isaac
The other high-minute lineup will be when Haas is resting. For that scenario, trade Isaac for Mathias IMO. Or Cline if he has improved enough to surpass Mathias overall.
Haas
Biggie
C. Edwards
V. Edwards
Dakota
Thoughts????
If PJ can stay PJ by limiting turnovers and maximizing his efficiency for the good of the team, and if Carsen can consistently provide a boost off the bench behind Dakota and Cline, then this team will definitely be a contender all season. Just gotta bring the intensity every game. The only questions are in the backcourt and frankly I'm not sure PJ is even much of a question. My money is on Dakota for the fifth starter but I see that changing over the course of the season between him Cline and maybe Carsen at times.
Remember, for CMP it's more about who finishes than who starts. In that regard:
G: Albrecht
G: Mathias
G: Vincent
F: Biggie
C: Haas
However, I wouldn't be surprised to see:
G: Thompson/Albrecht
G: Albrecht/C Edwards
G: Mathias
F: Vincent
F: Biggie
This lineup is probably the one that is able to handle the press the best as it puts 4 known ball handlers plus Biggie who is known to be a great passer and have great vision.
The starting lineup the first couple of games will not be the same as it will by the time we play our tougher non conference games and big ten schedule. Painter will make Carsen earn that starting spot by proving off the bench on the court he needs to start.
Game 1 - PJ, Dakota, Vincent, Biggs, Haas (lock it up)
???Dakota is not a point. Might as well call haas a pg too since he can dribble the ball.
Probably mine where I simply labeled three players as 'guards' instead of breaking it down as PG, SG, SF, PF, C.???
I missed the post where anyone labeled Dakota a pg.
Again, I stated who would finish because that is what is important with CMP rather than who starts. In that regard, Albrecht has the experience and the ability to be a steadying force. As much as I think PJ improves again as he has shown during his time at Purdue, it is hard to argue against a guy like Albrecht to finish the game for the Boilers.Albrecht was planning on ending his playing career before changing his mind and looking for grad school opportunities. I don't think you can be very certain about a guy who's still not fully-healthy and might not ever regain some of the mobility he likely loses post-hip surgery, so pencilling him in as the starting PG by the end of the season seems like a stretch to me but it would be cool to be wrong on this.
I believe the most consistently effective lineup on both ends of the court would be:
-C. Edwards
-Mathias
-V. Edwards
-Swanigan
-Haas (swap Smotherman for Haas if IH got in early foul trouble and Thompson for Swanigan if CS got in early foul trouble)

My viewpoint is that I'm not sure that Albrecht will ever play as well as he did pre-hip surgery, so I have doubts on whether he would be on the court at the end of close games. Again, if he proves me wrong that's great but I think it's going to be tougher for him to get back to top form than some people expect.
Isaac , Caleb , Vincent , Carsen and PJ . Starter minutes for Dakota and Ryan . Last I heard Carsen hasn't practiced at the point since first week of practice . Caleb and PJ have been outstanding and will rarely leave the court . We need Carsen in when Isaac and Caleb are on the court to provide quickness and drive the ball into the lane . Without Carsen or Basil on the court we suffer from being big and slow . Its good to be this deep and any minutes will be earned . Just my opinion
If that's true that he hasn't practiced at all at the 1, that's disappointing. He should play the 1 at times. The offense could spread out to get him in isos or high-ball screen action. That's the best way to utilize his talents, instead of playing him at the 2 in the motion all of the time.
Agreed.Again, in a motion offense...there really is no real need for a true '1' unless you are going to have a ball dominate point guard like Russell Westbrook or Derrick Rose. As good as Carsen appears to be, he isn't good enough to be a ball dominate point guard in the B1G...especially in his freshman year. He will get his looks through the motion offense (as shown in the trip to Spain). A player like him will find that his teammates will look to get him the ball in places where he can be successful.
Why can't he be isolated from the 2?If that's true that he hasn't practiced at all at the 1, that's disappointing. He should play the 1 at times. Did you not watch the E'Twaun Moore years? If that's true that he hasn't practiced at all at the 1, that's disappointing. He should play the 1 at times. Smooge and JJ ran high pick and roll hundreds of times.I did, and again, he would have made Purdue's offense even more difficult to stop if he played 1 in iso/spread and high pick-and-roll situations instead of the 2 in primarily motion for all four years.

Based on what I saw in Spain, I won't be shocked either.I think we will all be surprised with how well Carsen plays this year, I have a friend of Ryan Cline up at Purdue who says that Cline speaks very highly of his skill set, and won't be surprised if he averages double digit points this season.
