Jumps ship after 17 yrs before they reviewed his last season's job performance...smart move on his part imo!
I understand why KS did it, I just can't understand why Pitt would want a coach in his late 50's to take over. Seams like a bad hire to me. I like KS, but there are just to many good young coaches out there.Jumps ship after 17 yrs before they reviewed his last season's job performance...smart move on his part imo!
I have no inside information, but perhaps Pitt found out they couldn't "land" any of these good young coaches.I understand why KS did it, I just can't understand why Pitt would want a coach in his late 50's to take over. I really don't have an opinion on Dixon leaving or them hiring Stallings. I was simply pointing out to another poster that maybe the reason they didn't hire one of the "good young coaches" was because they couldn't get them to come to Pitt.So even though they weren't like The Settlers (you know...from the DirecTV commercial) in keeping Dixon they ended up being like The Settlers (you know...from the DirecTV commercial) in hiring their next coach?

I really don't want to get into the fire CMP discussions anymore. I have given my opinion on numerous other threads.
You and I both know what you were referencing with the Settlers. You have used it numerous times in other threads. It was ok the first time, little tired now.Where did I say anything about Painter there?
How do we get someone to want Painter again? If only the Baby Boilers could magically come back and make him appear desireable.

Go to the Final Four? How do we get someone to want Painter again? .
I'd call it a "safe" hire.I have a buddy that is a big Pitt fan and he was happy with Dixon leaving, but bummed about the hiring of Stallings. It really isn't a departure from what they were doing. Limited offense, good defense seems to be the MO for both coaches. He was hearing Enfield from USC was the leading candidate after the Millers, but they didn't want to pay Enfield's asking price, which was similar to what Dixon was getting.
Can you define "low reward"?
Yes, I can. One way I can define it would be my opinion that Pitt is never going to get to the Final Four with Kevin Stallings as head coach.
When you coach a DI program for 10 years or more or just flat-out underperform during your tenure, yes.
Bullshit.
"Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings took the Commodore basketball program to unparalleled heights in his 17 years at the helm, with success coming on the floor and in the classroom during his tenure. His teams advanced to seven NCAA Tournaments - including five in the last nine years and three consecutive tournaments (2010, 2011, 2012) for the first time in program history. He became the first coach to take two Vanderbilt teams to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament since the 64-65 team format (2004 and 2007). He coached three SEC Players of the Year (Dan Langhi, Derrick Byars, Shan Foster) with the Commodores, and 37 All-SEC performers. His 2012 team captured the SEC Tournament Championship, the first time a Commodore team has won the tournament in 60 years. He coached eight 20-win campaigns with the Commodores, the most in school history, and is the school’s all-time victories leader, an accomplishment he achieved in the 2013-14 campaign. Additionally, he has mentored 53 members of the SEC Academic Honor Roll in his tenure, and had seven players drafted in the NBA Draft."

Time will tell..... They may wish they still had Stallings around in the next few years. Vanderbilt isn't KY and never will be.He left Vanderbilt because he felt out of favor with the AD and a good portion of the fanbase. Do you think they were happy with their overall accomplishments in the NCAA Tournament during his tenure? No, and he had been there 17 years, so I think that speaks more to how successful they think Vanderbilt can be vs. what they had accomplished up to this point under Stallings. He did well, but not well enough after this much time. They wanted better and weren't going to settle for less any longer.

What part of "unparalleled heights" do you not understand?
Step back, read Vanderbilt's own release and then explain who's ever been better for VU.
The highs of his tenure weren't considered good enough to them anymore. That's why he decided to leave, because he was feeling the heat. What part of that do you not understand?
